Title: Sound after turning engine off
Post by: kyle0968 on June 24, 2013, 12:10:27
Hi all!   another observation again on my GD petrol active...

everytime i turn off the engine i always hear this 3 knocking sound as if something is disengaging within the engine bay.  its sort of 3 "tick" sound that is really audible from the driver's seat if window / door is open.

i've recorded a video here:

at 00:33  and 00:58  the 3 ticking sounds are audible.   i can relate this sound on motorcycle engines with those clutchless transmissions (not those CVT ones) but i dont know if its normal on our cars...

has anybody observed this on their car/s?

That sounds like a DMF on its final damp down. Sounds ok to me.

I can't help you with that one.

Never heard that noise on my 1.4 Active.

Could it be the fuel pump purging itself?

Of course not silly. I meant it sounds like one, but still doesn't sound serious to me.

i would try to ask the dealership about this one on the 1500km first service.  hope it would somehow shed light to the issue.

The sound is metallic in nature so fuel pump priming / purging could be ruled out and it also comes from the engine bay nowhere near the tank (where the fuel pump could be located)

With the bonnet up i hear a metalic sounding noise - like an electric motor whirling - when i turn ignition key on.

I put this down to the fuel pump??
