I'm set to record, could be a real eye opener for Hy senior management as long as no-one has been pre warned /advised, that would be a shame as I honestly believe these exercises have real value in re-connecting remote management with the real world.

Last week a chap guessed something was not right and this week while he was talking to the 2 managers there was a photo on the wall behind him of him with one of the manager.
A right own goal.......

Just read the blurb on next weeks show.

It is not the top man, tony w, but a director, ray pope.

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/undercover-boss/episode-guide/series-5/episode-4

Company director Ray Pope steps out from his cosy office and into very unfamiliar territory by going undercover on the shopfloor of multi million pound car giant Hyundai.Having tripled car sales in only four years, Ray worries that the business might be creaking under the strain. After years behind a desk, he's finally getting his hands dirty, but unearths sales staff struggling to perform, mechanics so demoralised that they're leaving the company, and valets frustrated at unachievable targets. And when the boss heads to the company's largest operation, Tilbury docks, where they import 2,500 cars a week, he's horrified to discover dozens of cars are being lost every day because of the system's he's responsible for.

Looks like E03 is scheduled for 15 July - Eleanor Kelly so I'd guess E04 will be 22 July

The way the chap, presume #1 sales manager, snatched paper out of the sale girl's hand.

He didn't look to pleased she wanted him to check figures.

Also, product info.  Learned by being quized by her dad!!

If she hasn't been on the courses he said she should have been on then the dealership should be binned!

I'm just converting it to .asf (to stream from my server) but it's a couple of hours off finishing.

If anyone wants to download the raw copy, it's 1.5gb and it's here

THIS IS NOT A ZIP FILE.

The conversion has 50 mins to go but I'm hitting the sack shortly. I'll move the stream over to my server when I get to work tomorrow, so we can view it in a post (like youtube). Says he, hopefully.

In the meantime, it's good to see my fibre upload currently being maxed out

Sorry chaps, I can't get my server to stream the content as I need lots of extra things compiling in to allow it.

I can't upload to youtube as I don't want to ruin my "good standing" video copyright class with them.

However, here's a faster link to my skydrive copy of the encoded (.asf) video:

I didn't have the time to chop the ads out :(

I noticed that there was a Hyundai ad in the third break, may have been more but I fast-forward through em usually. If I were thinking of buying one I'd probably wait for a year or two until they had things sorted out really. :)

Seemed to me that the accountant chappie might have felt he was doing a wonderful job when he had his powerpoint slides to show the bigwigs - but totally out of touch with reality.

I mean, adding lots of extra items to the 'mini-valet' (as it is shown on my bills) but not allowing extra time for the work to be done - he must be daft as a brush really.

We have far to many useless accountants in high positions in this country, need more engineers - like Germany.

Hyundai appeared a poorly organised 3rd rate Vehicle Manufacturer.

Choosing a weak personality, uninspiring & unpractical, Management Accountant to front the programme was probably the biggest mistake.

This opinion, although brief, is non exhaustive

What is your viewsp on the sales chappie snatching the paper from the girl?

For me, it clearly demonstrates the gulf between genuine Premium makes and wannabe makes. Too far too fast on low rent prices, you don't become Premium by just putting the prices up. Korea should pop over and look into what was actually happening under the current UK management team and what was reportedly happening. This program really did re-inforce my personal view on Hy dealerships here based on my own experience. Much to be done.

It was very rude for sure, shouldn't do that sort of thing, maybe he was very stressed out.

The manager at Chorley-Hyundai Blackpool was well overworked when I got dragged into his office when buying mine. He had a queue of people waiting to speak to him.  Though that was when they were doing the last of the government discount things in 2010, but I suppose they do even more sales now.

With proper training of the sales staff the manager might have less pressure.

Maybe the sales staff should have cheat-sheets which have all the important info on them. I can't remember exactly how long my car is without looking it up !

I think they treat mechanics like shit everywhere, the experienced chap should have been bribed to stay. Though that is bad management again, accountants can only see the number of mechanics, quality means nothing to them.

From what I've read the likes of Mercedes treat the customer like shit instead - unless they are buying.

Yes i was expecting him to be in the final segment and to  be offered some incentive to stay i.e. sort out service schedules and time allocation.

But don't forget each garage is a franchise and employ staff not hy uk so have no say on employing staff.

Ps
Have you seen my other thread re my local ceasing to be a hy franchise from the end of this month.

My opinion,

Shocked at all the problems that exist throughout every facet of the Hy operations. There is a saying, "The fish smells from the head." True in this case.

Senior management are totally out of touch with reality and don't deserve their positions. Lower order staff are quite loyal and put in a lot extra to keep their jobs, even though job security is not offered. Even a trainee manager knows that you can't increase throughput without increasing staff and support mechanisms (buildings / systems). I'd be putting all management on 50% pay, until all problems are sorted, or they can leave, take your pick. For ages, they've been stealing their salaries from Hy.

If the sales of Hy cars have increased over the years, it's NOT because of efficient management. What does that say about the product itself. It says it is extremely good, but the overwhelming majority of buyers are going to be disappointed in their after sales experience, due to management irresponsibility.

Young staff without training, should loose the franchise for that. I felt sorry for her, because these cars are packed with features and in a multi model circumstance it would be very difficult to keep up, however, "I'm not sure" is an unacceptable response to a buyer's question. Happens here to in Oz, a member bought a 6 sp manual and thought he only had 5 gears, so why wasn't he correctly informed by the salesperson.

The dude snatching papers needs to be given his marching orders IMO. Frustrated or not, that performance, in view of the purchasing public, is totally unacceptable.

I am surprised that Hy in Korea allowed a significant segment of their business to be shown in this light. It would hardly inspire viewers to buy one of their cars and expect good service, so even Hy Kor, have some answering to do.

There's more, but enough from me.

I agree.  He should be shown the door.

I don't think he thought there was anyone watching.

Be interesting why Pope didn't make a comment to the girl or may be he did and was told that was his normal self so was cut out as it would not be good for the company....

I wonder if hy uk are monitoring this and other site re this programme?

I hope so, based on the feedback from some members in the UK re after sales service on this forum, you can see that there are significant issues to address.

I left Radio Rentals the first time due partly to workplace bullying.. and I was the Manager

Everyone i've spoken too and watched the programme are at a loss as to what if anything, has or has not been done with the dealership chappie who snatched the paper....

I think they should do follow up programmes to show whether the issues raised have been corrected.
