Title: New wheels for my 2011 i30 1.6 CRDi
Post by: MrSnowman on July 10, 2013, 21:39:06
Id' like to get some nicer wheels for my 2011 I30. today it has the factory 16's  with hankook's . How much would changing to 17 or 18's affect my fueleconomy?

My car is silver. I was thinking rims with darkcenter and crome outerring. any other ideas?

Hi Mr Snowman,

I like black wheels with silver rim (with a silver car)... look great with a red car too.

The larger wheels should have a minimal effect on fuel economy and may even make an improvement if you opt for some low rolling resistance (eco) tyres...

If you go to 18" or bigger your ride will firm up considerably though and the cost of replacement tyres (particularly good ones) jumps up a lot  :sweating:

Hej Mr Snowman from Sweden! you could get some 17" rims with 205/50/17 tyres depending on the width of the rim theoretically they shouldn't use any more fuel as they are the same width as the 16" rims 205/55/16 tyres. Thats what I did anyway

Hallå landskamrat! :)

It gets a little Google translate for the rest of you who do not speak Swedish

A great Swedish lesson - did you first translate it into Swahili, from that into French then from that into English?..................

I once took a paragraph in English and for a bit of fun used Google to translate it into German, then French, then Italian, then Polish and back to English. It was total gobbledegook.

Magnus, everyone has there own likes and dislikes,I personally like polished alloys over black, some like chrome, others like the weirder colours.
before changing your wheels double check with your appropriate authorities,to see what you can leaglly change wheels to,I know over here, you are not allowed legally to change the rolling radius of your wheels by more than 3%,you may have similar regs to that, there are literally thousands of wheels out there, you just have to keep looking till you find what you want, some Wheel and Tyre centres have computer programs where they can show you different variants on your car before you purchase, maybe you could find one of them over there.
go through the gallery, some of the members here have changed their wheels,it may give you some idea's,On my photo's I have two almost identical cars, one with the standard 16"s and one with 17" alloy on black mags,no special reason, just to put pic's of our I30's up
