Title: hi from Gold Coast
Post by: guest507 on February 11, 2009, 12:16:46
hi folks, newbie here from the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia.

I paid a deposit today on a white i30 SLX CRDi manual, to be picked up next week.  Drive away price is $25,750 with the iPod cable included - I tried to haggle a bit, not sure if the price is spectacular.

Still thinking about window tinting, paint protection, interior protection etc.  I'm thinking turtle wax for paint protection, scotchguard for interior, and window tinting either via the dealer (would be about $500) or a 3rd party (any recommendations?).

cheers

Hi Jeronim,
Welcome to the forum. You are lucky to only have to wait a week for your car. I am still waiting and it is going on 5weeks.
I am sure you will get lots of great info from the site, and we are a friendly bunch to boot! :). Don't forget to post some pics when you get the car.
Cheers,
Misswicket

white i30 SLX CRDi manual
Hi Jeronim, I like your choice of i30.  Welcome to the "white SLX CRDi manual" chapter of the i30 Owners club.  Then again what other choice of model is there really?    :D

Thanks for the welcomes people.  For those who want pictures, I will oblige once I get the tinting done, even though I'm pretty sure it will look much like any other white SLX .  As for metallic white paint, I have no idea if it's possible.

Actually I'm partial to the darker blue option but figured that white would be noticeably cooler so went for that option.  Also I thought about red for safety but the the dealer had one in the showroom and that particular shade of red was yucky to me.

It is possible... Subaru make a pearl white iridescent and I think Hyundai have also done a Sonata with a metallic white as well...

Over here in the Wild West, Tint-a-Car charges about $350.  Midnight Express is not the darkest tint but cuts out the most heat and UV.  I had Midnight Express on my last car and it was great.  My i30 came with tint included because I live in the woop-woops and it would have been a hassle to take the car to Perth to get the windows done.  I've been told "paint protection" is a rip-off, you can DIY for much cheaper but don't know what products anyone recommends.  I was offered, and declined, paint protection etc for $1500!

You have to tick a box for the option to save outgoing messages...

I spoke to a panel beater who used to do paint protection about 10 years ago, they would pay about $50 per car for the materials and then apply it to the paintwork and charge $800 for it.  The raw materials weren't available to any old Joe, there was some kind of licensing involved.

In my experience with cars, the whole 'paint protection' thing is really not worth it, unless you hate your car and never wash it, maybe. As far as I can see there really is no point to it, I normally wash my car weekly/fortnightly and wax once a month for a sealant over the top, so if you take good care of your paint theres no need for paint protection.

I really can't see how paint protection works like it supposedly does...? Anyone want to enlighten me?

Oh and good job with your purchase :)
