Title: GD 1.4 petrol v FD 1.6 petrol
Post by: Keith on July 16, 2013, 11:27:25
Today my hire car was delivered, it's a black 1.4 petrol and initial thoughts before driving are that it seems well spec'd with lots of steering wheel buttons and digital gauges for engine temp and fuel level, on my FD these are analogue gauges and I don't have many steering wheel buttons. Interior seems bright and airy with comfy seats. My trip is only 45 miles each way to Eagle Ct near Birmingham Airport and back but I'll update on anything relevant and appropriate.

Well... In brief, if my FD became that 1.4 GD overnight I'd have no complaints! Zero, zilch... Nada! Very good car, does everything well and very comfortable too. 6 speed gearbox was smooth and I liked the "Chang gear" indicator. 14 buttons on the steering wheel and I didn't use them all... Well done Hyundai, I failed to find any valid criticisms.

Didn't you miss the full leather? I think I would...

Strangely I didn't even consider it Steve, the cloth was cool in the sun by comparison of course, and leather is always my preferred option I look for first when looking to change cars.

I had a car with leather seats once but they got hot in the sun plus I'd slide about a bit. Prefer cloth really.

I'd like 6 gears on my 2010 1.4 but other than that I'm happy as I mainly use it as a town car.

Got several steering wheel controls, must remember to use them more often.  :D

All in all I don't want to spend several thousand to update it with very little benefit to me. If I drove it for hours a day then maybe I'd think differently. :)

Yea the 1.6 is noticeably quicker Lakes, off the line and in-gear.
