Title: Hi from Syd-e-ny [and the winner is..... ]
Post by: OiOiOi30 on February 12, 2009, 10:54:48
Blue Mountains to be more precise. Mountain men jokes if you must, but please keep them to a minimum!  :D

I have been reading this forum as well as others for a while and I decided to purchase an i30 over a few other candidates.

After a 10 week wait I am now, officially, an i30 owner as well as a new member of this forum. Hope I can contribute in some small way, swap info and add to the fun.

My Crystal White MY09 SX CRDi Manual.
- Floor Mats
- Window Tinting
- Side & Curtain Airbags

Can't wait to "play" a bit more......  8)

Cheers everyone!

Hi OiOiOi30

Where abouts in the Blue Mountains, if you don't mind me asking? I grew up in Springwood (where my folks still live), but currently I live up in Newcastle.

Be sure to take a look at the Australia meets section, we had a meet that ran through there back in Jan, with another to follow later in the year.

Regards

Daniel

Thanks guys for the welcome replies of welcome,

Warrimoo Daniel, and for those OS members its' pronounced 'wurri-moo', hard 'moo' as in 'moot' which leads me to a moot point:
The name is believed to come from an Aboriginal word meaning "Eagle". The slogan "Blinky Bill Territory" is in honour of Australian author Dorothy Wall, creator of the popular Blinky Bill series of children's books featuring the adventures of a mischievous koala

 :D

Thanks for the tip on Oz meets section, saw that topic before I became a convert, quite a feat of organisation.

Cheers

What were the other candidates if you don't mind me asking and what swayed you in favour of the i30 (apart from us?  :D )

Just swayed by youz Dazz! seriously though, in hindsight reads like a saga really, but great fun along the way;

Started looking ahead for a small, fuel-efficient and safe commuter, 500km per week with 80% on freeways. As a way of updating my knowledge of current and future offerings in Oz, refining my criteria and budget, researched and drove the Honda Jazz, Mazda2, Ford Fiesta, Toyota Yaris., Mitsubishi Colt.. and then drove the intriguing Fiat Punto 1.9 diesel for fun, all with their own pros & cons but impressed by the diesels' torque.

Checked out the lower end of next category, Corolla, Mazda3 etc. again all with their good & bad points, never considered a Hyundai before  as here in Oz they had a poor, if reasonably undeserved reputation from the nineties, patchy product offerings and poor resale. Trawled the web for reviews & surveys and came across JD Power surveys, glowing Hyundai company, technology, investment and quality reviews, noted Hyundais' relatively high scores in the OZ motoring organizations "best Car"  awards and their criteria, reasonable UK & German reviews of the i30.

Climate change forecasts, fuel price escalations, the Federal election of Labor with carbon reduction policies, 5 star ANCAP rating, great value for money and then..... a test drive.

Phew! Simple in the end, no, really...youz nailed it for me!

I actually went to Warimoo Primary School.

Not a problem regarding the meets. Hopefully the next one will be even bigger and better!

Do you see many i30's up your way? I unfortunately don't get to visit as much as I would like. I've only seen one on the odd occasion.

Regards

Daniel

Aaah, the mountains, I like the great panoramas, the skylines and forests....  I'll try and make the next one you are already organizing, there used to be some great roads to drive on out that away! Hmmm the road over the Range between the Hunter and Mudgee might be worth a try?

I'm seeing more Oi30's every day and the kids have got the spotting bug, and no, I'm not being one-eyed and only seeing Oi30's.  :D
