Title: Manual Transmission
Post by: bloodnut on August 04, 2013, 06:19:25
Just done 105k service on the bosses i30, apparently the manual transmission fluid needs to be changed  also, dont think the dealership has done there job properly, the pollen filters were so blocked I doubt they had been changed, hence i'm doing a full service.
Have done a google search & read manual, seems to be not to specific on which fluid.
Have used auto fluid in current ss ute & bt50, thought i30 might use the same.
Any input welcome.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Tracula

In my manual (section 9-4) it says the Manual Transaxle Fluid should be API Service GL-4 (SAE 75W-85, fill for life)   :whistler:

I can't remember the fluid recommended by my service centre, but having discussed this issue with him he did say that there are better quality fluids than the factory fill which would be likely to improve shift quality, so although it might be filled for life, I wouldn't discount doing it.

Referring to that blast from the past....gearbox running really smoothly. Done just over 47K now. I really like the LiquiMoly products.

Used dexron 3 auto transmission fluid in my 96 excel 5 speed manual.
Car died at 500 000k's, all highway k's.
Never had any clunky gear changes,  regardless of cold morning's .

I'll do the same with my i30 once the warranty is finished.

Redline was recommended for my GT. I might give it a look for the i30.
Unless Nulon do one perhaps.
