For this last pic i just wanted to show the textured soft touch plastic which covers the top of the dash and doors. It's actually quite nice, but in the other pics it just looks plain.

Like it alot in the lighter green!
-
Eyma,
The light green seems to be a pretty popular colour at the moment with all the new falcons and commodores. That's why i used it.
It was also very easy to change from the moonlight blue to the Tiger and Lt Green.
Oz,
I wasn't sure what british racing green was. so i looked it up on wiki, and it gave me plenty of examples as well as the RGB values for it. After that it was pretty easy to replicate.
You are right, it is a beautiful colour. The more i look at it, the more i like it.
Tim.

the light green is very popular on mazda 2's
-
British Racing Green is an awesome colour which I miss so much on modern cars on UK roads. Sadly, I believe it's in some way "trademarked" which is why "we" see so little of it.
I'd love Fergie to have been BRG but our Korean friends obviously thought otherwise. Still, Mica Black was my choice and I'm happy enough with that
-
Hi Folks,
One of our favourite cars was our 1998 Nissan Pulsar (in green) seemed to be the most popular colour in that model. We had it for 4 years and did 100,000 Kms (Trish reckons the Tiida is just as good a car overall - but would like a rear spoiler if I can get her one!)
Cheers,
Dazz

the car looks great, i do not have climatronic, cruise control,or audio buttons on the steering wheel, or those rims,or the steering wheel on the right, but the car is the same as mine
)..anyway..i wanted to ask though, did the sporty pedals come stock or did you buy them after?
-
Hi Echo..
Very clever.. looks great.
P.S. It's actually Tim from Western Australias car (Dave just bought the pix over from the old site) although Dave now has an SR as well... Tim's is Moonlight Blue (Dave's is Steel Grey)
-
cool
-
Nice work there echocae,
That's a pretty cool modification. I thought you used a midnight sepia 'action' to produce that result, but i ran it and it came out like this:
...not the same, but i'd be interested to hear how you got that effect.
i also ran my black and white action and came up with this:

For those interested in how i changed the car colour in photoshop, here's a link to the tutorial i used:
http://www.photoshop911.com/retouching/ ... index.html (http://www.photoshop911.com/retouching/change_color/index.html)
Tiny,
The pedals are standard on the i30 'SR' model in Australia.

Hi all by the way!

Hi Slimbimjim... Welcome to the club
-
Just bought myself a new tomtom go730 gps, so it had to be customised...
Startup splash screen:
...and the car icon is now a moonlight blue i30 SR!

Nice job Tim.. very clever :D
-
Yes show us how you did it, than I can do it with my Tom Tom
-
good

Sure. It's not that difficult.
Changing the startup screen is in the manual. I uploaded the splashw.bmp image file (see below) into the gps root directory using Explorer (My computer recognises the GPS as a storage device when i connect it to the computer). You can also copy images to the 'photos' folder on the GPS and use one of those as the startup image through the GPS preferences menu (preferences > start up preferences).
splashw.bmp (converted to a .jpg):
Through explorer, i browsed through the GPS folders and found that all the car icons are in the '\art\cars' directory. I copied one of the car icons onto my computer, modified it in photoshop, then copied the modified image back onto the GPS.
The red around the car is necessary. The GPS will make the 'red' transparent when the image appears on the GPS screen.
Both images 'were' .bmp files, but photobucket converted them to .jpg files when i uploaded them for 'net viewing. If people are interested, i can try to upload the actual .bmp files for people to use as they wish.
NOTE: The .bmp files are MUCH cleaner than the disgusting converted .jps that photobucket butchered.
Anyway, that's how it's done on the tomtom go 730, i don't know if it will work on other units.
Good Luck!
Tim.
-
Don't think my Mio C520 has a start up screen as such.. but I might try the Car Icon bit...
-
Thanks tk421.
I got the car know the startup

I haven't taken any pics of the 'SR for a while, but no matter, the WA police took this one of me... and it only cost $150!
Tim :'(
-
... the WA police took this one of me... and it only cost $150!..
Oops
How far over the limit were you?
-
So Aussie polis have no real criminals to catch either then. Must be trained by UK force
-
Maybe the picture is deceptive but 45mph doesn't seem particularly excessive for a dual carriageway.
-

No real crims LEFT, the UK sent theirs all here once though...
-
wouldn't you think for that sort of money it would be a better picture, ask for a refund.
-
I was doing 71km/hr (44mph) in a 60km/hr (37mph) zone. I wasn't going as fast as they alleged, but i'm not going to bother arguing the point.
Lorian,
You're right. In Victoria it would definitely be an 80km/hr (50mph) zone. There's a lot of inconsistency between Australian states when it comes to the setting of speed limits.
For WA drivers;
Exceed the speed limit between 10 and 19km/hr and it's a $150 fine and 2 demerit points.
Tim
