Title: 3-color LED and LED Tube installed
Post by: tzwientjuh on February 17, 2009, 18:19:58
Putted the glovebox and cigarette holder out. Only 2 screws
(http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n87/tzwientjuh/DSC02520-1.jpg)

Then the cigarette lighter and 12v supply
(http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n87/tzwientjuh/DSC02522.jpg)

Back of cigarette lighter and 12v supply. I cutted the wires from the cigarette lighter as I don't smoke :)

I just drilled a small hole in the back of the glovebox. And placed a 3 color led in.

The led changes randomly to any color.

The LED tube I installed. I can choose over 9 color combinations. And it can also change by itself like the Led above. And it also reacts to sounds  :D

The red light in the middle is from the controller for the led tube. The wires are gonna be behind the plastic. But I'll do that later :)

Sorry for the low quality pics, tomorrow when there's more light I'll take better ones ;)

Neat :)

I think you meant that you unscrewed and removed the cigarette compartment not the glovebox

Anyway, I might remove mine as I would like to know if any of these wires become "live" when the key is removed

Good work Nick

What do you mean with "live", like in "on" wih no key? And for what purpose?

Yes.. on with no key.

1) To allow the 12V socket to stay live when I'm out of the car

2) So I can install my blue flashing LED which comes on when I take my key out (like an alarm LED should be)

Ah, I understand. I think the 'door lock button' is always on. I can close and open my doors without a key inserted.

So tap it from there maybe?

The permanent live, yes. But I need to tap into something that goes to 0V when the key is turned. The alarm circuit might do this, I'm not sure. I just want my blue LED to  start flashing when I remove the key (or when the alarm is armed).

Thanks for the thoughts

I was going to get behind the radio to see if I could do what I posted in that link, but don't fancy ripping the facia apart with my clumsy hands.

I'll be out shortly to test those wires you pictured

To keep techi stuff together it might be a good idea, as well as here, to post the diagrams under Techincal.

Can you do the honours tzwientjuh

Putted the glovebox and cigarette holder out. Only 2 screws

Only 2 screws, but a whole load of hurt getting the box out

As well as the screws there are 4 lugs gripping the sides, which didn't want to budge when I tried.

After that, the cables plugged into the heated seat switches and ashtray light were only just long enough to get my hands behind to release them. Only to find that the cables I was looking at in your picture aren't as exposed as yours, so I couldn't get to them.

Ah well, plan B next week maybe.

I don't have heated seats and I don't have an ashtray light ... thats why it was easy :) But now I know the purpose of the lose cabels in there :)
