Title: Hi from Adelaide
Post by: EpOcH on February 18, 2009, 09:11:53
Howdy,

99% chance im going to be an i30 owner  :P

Have spent a couple of months looking at various options for a new car im pretty much sold on the i30, there's not much that can stop it at this stage.

I'm lurking around to have a look at previous and current issues (if any) and gain as much info as I can to ensure my research thus far has been accurate.

So dont mind me lurking around I dont bite !

Welcome to the club EpOcH, right what can we do to get that final 1% :D

Lurk as much as you like, but judging your introduction, I reckon you just might have to get involved

At this stage (the next couple of weeks) just saving the last couple of dollars before I attempt to do the deal somewhere. I'd prefer Adelaide but im open to buying interstate and shipping/driving it back for the right sort of $$'s :)

I have my wish list sorted, i.e SLX , Diesel, Manual, ESP and not Red, White or Black, atleast it leaves 3 colours to attempt to get one in stock, I dont particularly like the idea of waiting 1-5 months for a delivery from Korea . I may consider a really low KM almost new.

I've grown fond of the Cruise/Trip computer/Climate control in the current car (VT Commodore , gen3 v8, for those in the UK think Vauxhall Monaro body shape except 4 doors) hence the SLX selection.

Lurk as much as you like, but judging your introduction, I reckon you just might have to get involved

I'm a car enthusiast at heart and I dont mind getting involved and will more than likely end up having a bit of a tinker (read: Tune etc) with it after a reasonable run-in period.

Hi EpocH,
Just a bit of advice that might save you some money.
I don't want to sound like a car salesman,  but there may never be a better time to buy a i30. that did sound like a sales pitch though
The i30s are currently on drive away deals.Free on road costs. You will save approx $3000 by buying now. The catch is though that it must be on a car that can be delivered before the end of the month, so you will need to move quick to grab what stock is left either at your dealer or from Hyundai pool stock. Jeez I sound like a car salesman sometimes

I have noticed that the prices seem a little all over the place at the moment. I figured now is a good time as they would be trying to get rid of '08 plated vehicles as in peoples minds , theyre a year older now (even if they were built in 12/08) so the time to strike is now :), Other competing brands are doing the same thing, so armed with this info it should also help twist some arms a little more.

I have seen one for $23,990 (its dropped from $24,990 in the last week) drive away at the moment, with the only thing its missing is ESP as its not listed in the details (I gather this cant be added post factory like most cars however I could be wrong) but im going to confirm.

It is 850 odd KM's away from home but it would also make a nice run-in period for the trip home  :P, obviously not sitting @ 100km/h all the way home on cruise so the engine gets to beds in nicely :D

I have the feeling I'll be out and about in Adelaide this weekend trying to seal a deal with my criteria using the above as a guide as to how low they can go, if not further ;)

If anyone has some suggestions for Adelaide dealers to visit , I'm all ears.

I'll be a cash buyer which should also work in my favour.

P.S. Thanks for the Welcome's and the Price tip  8)

Its a done deal, deposit paid ....

<carsales link removed ... theyve taken it down since Ive paid my deposit>
15km's on the clock, Silver and all my other wants.

Having approached 2 dealers in Adelaide today who both wouldnt move very much on RRP price I've put a deposit down for the above, 2008 plated but MY09 build, so 2 keys, ESP included and all my other wants.

I just couldnt pass up saving $2000-3000 based on a local one for the sake of a $100 plane flight from SA to Vic, $100 max taxi fare from the airport to the dealer and a tank of diesel to get me home, I had to act now to not miss out on the Driveaway deals which also saves me ~$2500 ontop of the normal RRP.

A dollar saved is a dollar earnt or so they say !

Could be as early as Saturday if things go smoothly , I'ts in stock and sitting there waiting, to get in on the free onroads it has to be a done deal before the 28th so ive opted to use their finance and pay it off in a couple of weeks. Their finance guy wasnt in today so theyre going to call me in the morning to finalise it, cant wait.

Flew to Melbourne this morning , red-eye flight (6:50am depart), taxi'd to dealer and drove back to Adelaide.

Took it easy and varied rev's/gears along the way so as to give it a nice run-in.

Ended up with 5.1L/100km's ... not bad really and quite a comfortable ride.

Pics to follow tomorrow when there is some light.

Ive dumped some piccies in  http://users.on.net/~rossj/i30

A few of the car , some of the turbo !(FWOAR) and a couple of some other niggles ive noticed since picking the car up ,i.e small dent on the bonnet , scratch in the drivers door area and some of the blue plastic that protects the seats in shipping not removed.  :'(

Apart from the above ive nothing to complain about, car is rego'd now and im driving it around and loving it !

Its had its 1000km *inspection* yesterday even though it had only done ~920km's and will book it into a mechanic for early next week for an Oill + Filter change, i dont like the idea of that initial oil being in there very long.

Next on the list is researching tune options

And on another note , iPod Cable ...

Rang one dealer , $101.99 ... rang second dealer $75.00 , once close to home , one about halfway home litterally a 1min deviation from normal roads... Both the genuine item.

So please do check around if your after the cable.
