Title: CD player problem
Post by: drd00d on February 24, 2009, 19:05:48
Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced problems with the CD player in their car.  Mine is not reading CD's properly.  It will read the first track but when you try to skip to the next or Track 1 is finished it will just flick through all the rest of the tracks (the screen shows it moving from Track 2, 3, 4 etc) until it eventually comes back to Track 1 & starts playing that again.  I have tried about 6 different CD's & am getting different results with each CD.  Some CD's will read better than others.  (ie: it doesn't seem to read burnt CD's as good as original ones).

Quite annoyed as the car is not even 6 months old yet!

Would appreciate any help you can give.

So it does that on original CDs too, albeit to a lesser extent?

Does this happen when you are still or just when driving along?

Hi drd00d,

Have you asked the dealer to look at it yet? I had a similar issue with a Nissan Pulsar about 18 months into my ownership and they just replaced it with a new one no questions asked..

Don't think it's a common problem or we would have heard...

Hi,

Thanks for your replies.

Yes it does it on original CD's too just not as badly.  It happens both whilst driving & sitting still.

Haven't asked the dealer to look at it yet as it only started happening this morning.  Was working perfectly yesterday afternoon.  Just wanted to see if any one had any similar problems with a simple fix solution before heading to the dealer.

Do you have any condensation problems in your i30, like water collecting inside the windscreen, or damp floor mats? Things like that might have an effect on the CD lens too

On a previous car I had when the temperature was really really warm I had a similar prob.

See if it is heat related

Good thinking eye30. Dunno what the temps are like in Sydney but that could be a problem. Just surprised no-one else has reported this problem as Dazz suggested. Then again, how many of us use the CD player? I sure don't use mine

I wouldn't think the problem is heat related.  The temperatures in Sydney have been quite low compared to a month ago when it was 40 plus most days & it worked perfectly during that time.

There is no condensation visible in the car.

I may try a lens cleaner & see what happens.

Otherwise I'll take the car to the dealer & see what the problem is.

Thanks for all the replies.

Just remember, the 5 year warranty applies to your audio system too, so don't take any bullshit from your dealer if they try to fob you off  :)

Actually in Australia the warranty on the sound system is only 3 years. It's a bit of a loophole. For other models (Getz, Accent, Elantra, Tiburon, Terracan etc) they have an exchange service, but if it is an internal fault in the stereo and can't be easily fixed they will have to replace the whole unit with a brand newie. Which is no bad thing.

I only used the CD player until I had loaded all my music on to my hard drive 8), and now my 6 stacker would have cobwebs inside!

They are an extremely reliable unit, internal statistics indicated less than one in 200 were giving trouble. That compares to an industry average of 8 percent giving trouble in the warranty period. Maybe you're just a lucky one.  :P As others have said, condensation and rapid temperature fluctuations can cause that sort of malfunction, but unless you have somehow got some water in the car that's unlikely. There are a lot of i30s in Sydney and I think we'd all be hearing about it if they were all doing it...

Let us know what they find!

Hi all,

Just wanted to finally let you all know that the Hyundai dealer said the problem with the CD player was heat related.  It has not done it at all all winter.
Aside from that I have now racked up around 11,500 kms & the car is getting better every day.
Hope everyone has a good weekend!
