London is about 600-700km away from Scotland, which is about one hour flight - don't you think it is a good idea to meet other members somewhere as long as you are there?

I would love to meet other members while I am in the UK, however I only get one day off a week.  I will be in London in about a months time, just for the day though, and that will be in Farnborough, doing my check flight.  I do plan to catch up with bumpkin at some stage.

Actually, I couldn't believe I got paid today.
Lots of nice pics for the family album, a few drinks as part of the job and paid for by work and the scenery was quite nice too.
A good day all round.  :D

On the day after we arrived, we had the day free, so we decided to go for a drive to see what we could see.

We came across this castle, called Castle Fraser.

Here is some information on the castle:

Castle Fraser - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Fraser)

We paid our 2 pound to park in the car park, and then wandered down to the castle grounds, only to find out the castle was closed.  If only I had of known that BEFORE we left the warm car (yes, that is snow in the photo).

The place where the company have put us (the other guy on course with me) up is right in the middle of Aberdeen.  This is the view during the day from my apartment.

It is the Music Hall at Aberdeen, right on Union Street.  The night that I visited the Bumpkin family, there was the Christmas parade through town, so my view turned into this:

More to follow when we get more time off.  I'm not sure you want to see the inside of a pub, or a simulator, or a classroom.

Pub, yes, if it has a motorized bull to ride, stimulator, yes if it's in the pub, forget the classroom though.

Fatboy - Jamie....Thanks for pics, enjoy your time in Scotland, nice place.   Black pudding with brekkie?  OR perhaps Haggis on toast?  :undecided:  As for parking fee of £2 at ye olde closed castle, yes mate, they charge everywhere for parking in the UK. :( :sicky:

You need a drop of Glenmorangie to keep warm. :goodjob2:

We had a day of touring Scotland today.  My partner in crime and I decided to go for a drive, and see where we ended up.

We started heading North and ended up in a down called Macduff, on the Northern Coast of Scotland (East of Inverness and North of Aberdeen).  It was a bit windy and cold there, but a nice fishing town, nonetheless.  The coast here was very ragged, as you can see from the photos.

We found an ocean bath near Macduff, which looked like it needed a little bit of TLC to bring it to it's former glory.  It would have been a nice place in the summer months, as the baths were sheltered from the waves.

We then headed coastal towards Inverness, and stopped in Lossiemouth for a coffee and an ice-cream.  The weather had improved from Macduff, and we even saw some surfers (with full wetsuits, of course).

We continued West through Kinloss and stopped at Nairn for lunch.  It was, without a doubt, the best fish and chips I have had in a long time.  Fresh cod with a light batter, cooked to perfection.

On the way to Inverness, we spotted a sign for a Brodie Castle, so we decided on a little diversion.  Again, the bloody thing was closed!!  It did look nice though.

We continued through Inverness and headed South, and found this little Castle.  Can you guess where this is?

The flag over Castle Urquhart at half mast for the victims of the helicopter crash in Glasgow.

All in all, a great day.  The weather was actually very nice, particularly when we got to Loch Ness.  The drive back took us a little over three hours from Loch Ness to Aberdeen, in the dark, at 4:30pm!!

I've no idea where that castle is. Is conehead a clue? :P

Good to see you posting at proper times of the day too, unlike your colleagues back "down under" who seem to post at strange times of the night - usually when I'm asleep (why do they do that?).

Good to see you are getting to see a bit of Scotland Jamie :goodjob:

All of the castles in Scotland are only open from April-October, it would cause too much damage to floor coverings etc for them to be open over the winter months, but as you have seen, it doesn't stop you seeing the outside of them (and you are not allowed to take pics inside anyway!)

Did you get buzzed by any fast jets around Lossie/Kinloss??  :happydance:

We tried the 12 year old, 15 year old and 18 year old Glenfiddich Single Malts.  Or as the guide called them, Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Directly below my apartment in Aberdeen I have this:

The Grill Bar, Aberdeen Scotland - Aberdeen bars, traditional pubs, whisky (http://www.thegrillaberdeen.co.uk)

A very wide selection of Whisky from around the world.  I was going to ask if they have any Lark, but I thought that I shouldn't travel half way around the world to buy a Whisky that comes from Hobart!!

Ahhh, The Grill, come out of there well and truly plastered a few times over the years.

A traditional pub, only has a gents toilet, women are welcome nowadays but have to move on if they need to go!!

You picked one of the best dishtilleriesh there Jamie, have you tried any of the Orcadian Malts?  Highland Park is my favourite and then for a completely different taste I like to head to Skye for a wee Talisker :happydance:

Visited here a few years ago and the place was full of american tourist buying anything and everything with tartan on it.

The price of the whisky on sales in the factory shop was way above normal price.

As staying local i called into the village store just a mile or so away and the prices were at least 60% cheaper and a better selection
