Title: Huyndai i30 GD - Changing lightbulbs without removing the front bumber
Post by: chris_i30gd on November 22, 2013, 16:06:35
:happydance: Just wanted to mention that it's very easy to change the  lightbulbs without removing the front bumber.
I have done it today and took me 2 minutes for the change.

On my old FD I need to remove the headlight assemblies, to change the bulbs.

Isn't that even necessary on the GD..

That is nice to know. My Owners manual says :-

To change headlight bulb

1. Turn off the engine and open bonnet

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable

3. Loosen the assembly retaining nuts and screws

4. Pull out both sides of the front bumper and then pull out the front bumper

5. Remove the headlight assembly from the body of the vehicle. (If you can reach the bulb you do not need to do step 3, 4 and 5

6. Disconnect the power connector from the back of the headlight assembly

7. Remove the cover by turning it clockwise

8. Disconnect the headlight bulb socket connector

9. Unsnap the headlight bulb retaining wire by depressing the end and pushing it upward

10. Remove the bulb from the headlight assembly

11. Install a new bulb and snap the headlight bulb retaining wire into position by aligning the wire with the groove in the bulb

12. Connect the headlight bulb socket connector

13. Install the headlight bulb cover by turning it clockwise

14. Connect the power connector to the back of the headlight assembly

15. Reinstall the headlight assembly and bumper to the body of the vehicle.

Interesting #5 to put

(If you can reach the bulb you do not need to do step 3, 4 and 5

At the end.

So does this depend on the size of your hand?

When i looked at mine i felt i could change as i could get my hand behind the assembly

I had a quick look at mine and decided that with my mitts I would do more damage that I can afford if I tried squeezing my hand into the limited space

Yes it depends on the size of the hand.

In the manual it says to remove bumber.

But with an average hand size it's very easy
to change bulbs without removing the bumber safely.

Bit of a bummer if you have to remove the bumber.  :D
