Hi everyone,
Do you know if there is a difference between the 2008 model and 2009 model of the i30 SX?
Many thanks.
-
I like to know to?
I just ordered our's on the 27th of February 2009.
I hope I get a 2009 built?
-
I assumed I was getting a 2009 model however the 'model code' of what I've ordered is i30SXEM08 which makes me think it's an '08 model. I've read somewhere that they're identical but I'm looking for confirmation of that.
-
Why don't you ask your seller? I would :)
-
I wanted the seller to put "build in 2009" in the contract to ensure I will get a 2009's car, but it was refused.
From the reselling point of view, i30 2008 might get the buyer to think it is older than an 2009's one IMO.
-
I have emailed my dealer and told him that I want a 2009 Built with ESP and not a 2008.
He emailed back and said that it is confirmed that you will be getting a 2009 built with ESP and all the other stuff we ordered. :D

I would be keeping their reply in a safe place...

I think I would have "refused" to sign until they did.. there is no reason I can think of why they couldn't have put that...
-
Yes I am going to keep my email in a safe place?
thanks
-
I would ask the dealer however I'm not sure whether to trust his advice because it might be in his interest to sell me the 2008 over the 2009. By the sounds of it though there is no, or very little, physical difference between the years so I might not worry about it. I need the car ASAP and won't be able to wait out reordering it. Thanks everyone for your responses.

There is a difference between the build date and the model... just trying to clarify.
The '09 model started to be built about September '08 and included (I'm pretty sure) ESP as standard across the range. ESP can be identified, as posted elsewhere, by the module in the engine bay but more easily by an "ESP" switch at knee height in the cabin.
An '09 model would certainly be the one to get unless looking for a bargain price on old stock which in Oz at least may have only one remote key, no ESP and no CC for the diesel.
The actual build date is on a sticker (decal) on the passenger side B pillar.
To get the latest (current) features you need to confirm that it's an '09 model with the build date incidental to that although I'd be expecting something made in the last couple of months if buying now.
-
Hmm I think I saw the "new" i30. I was passing by a Hyundai dealer and it looked to me like it was different. Well I'm not sure, but it looked to me like it has different front lights? The housing was not "chrome", it was black i think? I'll try to check it one more time today..
-
I got the dealer to include in my contract that it will be an 09 build. I insisted on that, as under the current sale you get a further $1,800 discount on top of whatever else you can negotiate if it is an 08 build.
I couldn't get an 08 build in my colour choice with ESP, and therefore did not get the further $1,800 discount, hence my requirement for the special condition.
However, my dealer is being extremely evasive about when the car will get to Australia, as in providing no information at all. If anyone else has any information on when the 09 builds will get here, I would be interested to know.
-
He told us it will be roughly 2 weeks.
-
Ok, this is how the 2009' model looks. I was right. It has different front lights.. But i'm not sure i like it. They are "too black"... Have to see it better in person..

And yes, I think they all have ESP, but I'm not sure..

Thank's god I don't see any chrom :)

here you have more differences:

The only thing that could excite me, would be it 09 had a 6 speed gear box or 2.0 CRDi.
the ESP & CC are nice to have , but think economy could improve with 6 speed, and would not mind more grunt. so 24 extra cubic inch would be nice
-
I just got an email this morning saying the car will be ready on the 12th of March to pick
up with all the extra's put on and a full tank of fuel. Can't wait 8)

Hi 130Man, what type of I30 are you getting? Once you get the car, can you please confirm it is a 2009 built. I ordered my car on 24 February 2009, and the dealer hasn't managed to tell me anything about when I will get the car. They were saying it could be 2 months for a 2009 built car.

I'm getting the Hyundai i30 SLX, Vivid Blue, Auto, with Rear spoiler, Reverse park assist, mudflaps, Alloy
Pedals, floor Mats and slimline numbers plates.
No problem I will confirm it's 2009 built. Plus it depends where you live also?
-
Hi 130Man, where do you live? I am in Brisbane. Is that the diesel or petrol I30?
My dealer said wherever I30's are unloaded first in Australia in Townsville, Brisbane or Sydney, mine will be sourced there.
-
Melbourne, Country area and it's petrol
-
On my deal contract, the 'make and model' is listed as 'HYUNDAI i30 SX with ESP Manual'. Would that confirm it's a 2009 model? Did the 2008 models not come standard with ESP?
Thanks.
-
The 08 model since about mid year came standard with ESP.
The only difference with th 09 model is the build plate.
-
and the dark lining in the headlights...?
-
I think I've done an about-turn. I think like the 2008 headlights more. Great! Now I don't care what I get!
-
and the dark lining in the headlights...?
Is that right?
I wil have to check that out tomorow.
-

I think I would have "refused" to sign until they did.. there is no reason I can think of why they couldn't have put that...
Because I ordered the Protection Pack as well, so the sales man said it had to be ordered from the factory and it wont be a 2008's, so he only agreed to put in "2009" at the end of the make and model box, it read like "Hyundai i30 sx 2009". It sounded logical at the time, so I signed the contract.
-
He told us it will be roughly 2 weeks.
You are lucky, my contract says "April/ASAP".

Maybe it's what state you are in?

I was just told by the dealer that my 2009 built car ordered 2 weeks ago, is probably going to be another 3 months before I see it (as in June 2009).
I can't understand why it should take so long. If December 2008 cars are being sold in the dealerships now, what happened to the January and February 2009 built cars?
-
and the dark lining in the headlights...?
I think the dark headlight surrounds might be only on the European models. I delivered a 01/09 built i30 during the week and the lights were no different.

Mate, you see they have to have some type of organized system at the factory, now you can't expect quality to be as good if say every second car has different factory options, if this was so they would confuse the assembly line workers.
so what i would imagine would be they would do a compleat run on one type with all same options and same trans same motor. then set up for the different motor or trans or what ever the week after or maybe the next month. now do you understand?
sometimes takes longer if you fully optioned the car all factory fitted but it is always best fitted at factory at the start rather than aftermark or dealer fitted. at least thats what i would expect.
cheers
-
I am getting a diesel manual SLX with no factory fitted options. I guess they are not making any more for a while.
My dealer has not helped my anxiety. Prior to purchasing the car I was told as soon as I placed the order, the Hyundai computer would advise them of the delivery date of the car and it would be ready in 1 maybe 2 months at the latest. Since then when I asked for a very general not holding them to it ballpark of when they expect the car might arrive in Australia it has been, I will call you back, the computer is down, I will call you back, my manager has better information on his computer, I will call you back etc. I can understand their reluctance to say anything if they don't know but I would be happy if they had just told me what you have just said.
-
Our car is at the Caryard all ready, getting ready for pickup Thursday.
Very strange waiting that long for your's

I don't know mate, but for some reason, Hyundai only seem to be advertising the i30 petrol right now ( in Aust ) never seem to see both petrol & diesel in the official Hyundai ad's. plus all the new i30's i see are petrol. but i must admit i have not been into a Hyundai dealer since getting my i30 CRDi last April. still love it. i waited 5 week's.
what i think is car;'s are not selling and its a buyers market, so i think why build diesel when it costs more and everyone wants a bargain price. just build the cheaper petrol. but don't worry diesels are here to stay. just wait and see.

Yes m8 you are right (from the new factory) didn't realize the photos posted elsewhere on here were from one of our European friends...sorry .. :-[

Well I can confirm that our Hyundai i30 is built February 2009 and received two keys on Friday.
LOVE THAT CAR :D

LOVE THAT CAR :D
Very pleased for you "guys" :D

People here have got no idea.
The only difference between a 09 & 08 model i30 is that on the sx model the ESP is standard.
Looks wise there is nothing different. if you think you have seen somthing differnet then its been added threw aftermarket and not standard.
Also there is late built 08s that came with the esp standard also.

Way to start off, buddy

Good work. 09 SLX has ESP standard but there are 08 SLXs without ESP.
-

Nope, I just know what on the car!
I've read lots of things on this forum and found alot of things that are wrong.
Just because I only have a small number of post. Doesn't meen I havn't been reading the forums for a while. they are open to public viewing!
-
I think that we had allready determined that there were no differences between the 08 and 09. You cant even count the ESP as it has been a standard feature for some months on the 08 model.
-
08 is one year old now, 09 is this years model.
but not worth shooting people down over mate.
09 has more fruit on the sideboard, might be free fruit?
if i was buying a new i30 right now i would want 09 build date.
-

.. then please do start a new topic and list a few of them :)
If there are things that aren't quite right, better we know sooner rather than later :D

There is a bit of a difference :)

I couldn't see anything on that link that wasn't available on the later 08 models.
I still maintain that only the build date is different. I would predict that a new model will come out mid to late this year. Hyundai seem to update their model specification every 2 years approximately.

That's good to know Eyma, if they update with the right features and i'm still enjoying my i30 i would trade up.

The few extra things that are on the wagon might be an indication of whats to come on the hatch eg indicators on the mirrors

Mine was built 10/08 but has the 09 specs.

Hmmm... an original approach...
I look forward to seeing the "corrections" posted, to finally enlighten the people with "no idea".
Are you sure you're not from Hyundai customer service...
