I have an early 11/2007 SLX which doesn't have bluetooth in the audio system.
I seems to me that it may be possible to simply purchase a second hand unit from a late 2010 model i30 and simply swap it it my existing audio unit.
I'm assuming that the bluetooth function is contained within the radio/stereo unit and won't require any extra wiring.
Any advice would be appreciated.

:welcome: Lawrie,
Sounds like a lot of trouble to me, unless you are very handy with car electricals. You would need to find a second hand head unit and hope that it works ok. Then, either fiddle around with switching it yourself or pay the best part of $100 for someone to do it for you..
If it were me, I'd either buy one of those bluetooth hands free units that clips on your dash or sun visor which often special out for $50 or less, or buy a GPS with built in Bluetooth (these have got cheaper lately and work quite well) Just make sure you get one with lifetime map updates as that makes them really good value. :goodjob:

Reasonable thought.
However I have a reasonably new GPS which is not Bluetooth unfortunately.
Installation is not a problem for me but I am interested to know if it is simply a case of remove one and plug in another.
Thanks for the input

No Worries :goodjob: Fair call (so to speak) :D

I'd imagine you'd also have to fit a microphone in the roof lining..... :undecided:

Microphones are in the radio Rusty, lawriemcf you'll have to get the 2011 unit I think, friend has the 2010 and his doesn't have the Bluetooth, someone on here did do this conversion.but can't remember who it was

Wouldn't think it would work very well there... :undecided:
Pretty sure my daughters Accent has the mike in the roof lining just above her head. I assumed the i30 would be similar...

G'day mate,
You can usually find them on Ebay for around the $100-150 mark. I believe that they plug straight in.
The blue tooth is self contained within the unit, and works as well as any other I have used. They were used in the 2010 Trophy version of the FD before being adopted in the MY11 range (about 3 months after I got my MY10 :head_butt:)

Be a bit careful as the first MY11 (which my Wife Trish has) missed out on bluetooth (fortunately she wouldn't use it anyway)
Think it actually has to be a 2011 build car.. (or later) :undecided:

Hi
I too was thinking about buying one of these units to fit into my 2010 FD.
I believe some earlier models '09 at least the Bluetooth stereo was an option so a few are floating around from time to time. A seller recently told me it is a direct swap from mine to the Bluetooth unit but when asked about steering wheel controls he wanted to sell me the complete steering wheel but then changed his mind and said it would suit my application and wouldn't send me a pic of the steering wheel.
I therefore have 2 things to ask here. The first question, has anyone done this swap and if so how direct a swap is it and how do the steering wheel controls fit up. The second question, could someone with an OEM Bluetooth equipped FD send me pics of the steering wheel and controls please.
Cheers
Steve

So I presume from the silence that no one has done this or has one :(
