Title: Can You Identify the Make and Model.
Post by: AlanHo on December 28, 2013, 14:20:10
This guy should go and buy a lottery ticket pronto whilst he is on a run of luck.

BBC News - M11 Christmas Eve crash driver has 'incredible escape' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-essex-25529589)

Wow!!  Very lucky indeed.

I personally wouldn't bother with buying a lottery ticket, they have already used up all of their luck.

Bit tough to identify make and model from that pile of scrap metal.  One thing is for sure: the manufacturer won't use that picture in their advertisements promoting their cars' safety and durability.

I dunno, the fact they survived is probably a good advertisement... :undecided:

I think it may be a taller vehicle like a Nissan Qashqai.

Aaagh, I have hired one of those next April/May in UK, tried to get a i30 but not much luck, perhaps I should hire a Centurion Tank for when I drive up the M11, up Cambridge way.

I think their survival was more good luck than anything else:  If they hit the sign a few inches closer to the occupants, it wouldn't have been a happy outcome.

I would be interested to know how fast they were traveling when they hit.  The forces that would cause a car to split in two must have been pretty significant.

Interesting that all reports i have read do not make any comment on model and make.

Normally this is reported.

Wonder why?

Defect in model i wonder.

Anyhow, at the end of the day the people survived, that's the important thing...  :goodjob:

The fuel filler is on the left side of the car by the look of things - that rules out most of the Euro brands.

I think that the car is a Hyundai 2011 ix35. The shape of the rear light and the body join line from the wheel arch is spot on.

I parked next to one at the supermarket today and was able to take a look.

I'd like to know why the make and model seems to be such a secret.
Normally it's part of the news report on TV news and in the written press.

After all, under their own rules... It is actually of public interest!

The rear light does not seem to match that of a Lexus in the UK which have transparent lens covers - not red ones. They are also a different shape.

Chris Jones, drummer with The Dolmen.

Been trying to see if the car is mentioned on their FB page (https://www.facebook.com/thedolmen?fref=ts) but so far nothing.

Looks like a Focus to me too.

The wheels are not quite right for a focus. Also the rear light and body panel above it is not the right shape and the fuel filler flap is not visible on the crashed car.

I am now quite sure that car is a 2012 Nissan Qashqai. One overtook me in stop start traffic today and the wheels with raised edges on the 5 broad spokes , rear light with a transparent inset, deep roof spoiler, shape of the body join with the bumper panel, shape of the side panel by the rear window etc were all just right.

The mystery has been niggling me - but I am now gonna leave it alone. Unfortunately the Nissan web site now shows the newly face lifted model with some fancy wheels.  But the rear bodywork has not changed much.
