Title: LED Cheap
Post by: The Gonz on January 03, 2014, 23:21:48
Just got home and unpacking some LED replacement bits for Firty. Thank you SuperSaver at Bukit Bintang mall for a bunch of electronics at eBay prices without the postage. :happydance:

@UM, fair call, I'll at least locate a web pic of whta I got.

@Dazz, even the luggage went to plan (you'd be SO PROUD) when I intentionally took the crappiest, biggest case I had, got it damaged as predicted, and got it replaced with a brand new RM450 case with loads of space for all the bits'n'pieces. :happydance:

Here's a shot off the web of my new RM2.99 boot light. That makes it about A$1.10 :victory:

And the twin pack festoons are like this:

Let us know how they look when you put them in, Gonz.

I put the panel type into the boot spot and it must be the same size as mentioned in a previous post. I had to shave a little plastic frame line away to make it fit flat against the lens. The extra illumination is a Hallelujah moment, especially when the original incandescent festoon globe after only a few seconds of way-too-dim light was too hot to touch. :happydance:

The light now bathes the whole boot space with a cool bright daylight from a pretty 3 by 3 arrangement in the lens. :victory:

I'll work out how to safely remove the lenses in the visor lights and do them next. :D

And no comments about the DMO bag just because I found some use for it at the supermarket - remember SA is plastic free (meaning you have to pay for it )

And now for the visor (vanity) lights. Does anyone have any experience with removing the lenses? I prefer to ask than tamper needlessly and risk damage. :P

I used the flat tool from a tool kit similar to FeiFei FF-010 Car Audio Removal Pry Tool Kit - Yellow - Free Shipping - (http://dx.com/p/feifei-ff-010-car-audio-removal-pry-tool-kit-yellow-228981) to pry open the cover.  It just popped off.

Is any particular edge of the lens better than the rest?

From the short side closest to the centre of the car.
Has  a vertical spring clip so that it can be installed/removed for bulb replacement.  The side closest to the doors (driver or passenger) have (long) horizontal plastic tabs parallel to the roof -not designed to come out first.

*Map lights click out from the sunglass holder end (the light cover/lens clicks out at the hinges).
