Title: Electrochromatic rear view mirror
Post by: VaerO on April 01, 2014, 12:06:44
:(

Dita may have hit her first bump!! I think the "Electrochromatic rear view mirror" (auto dim)  may have stopped working. I noticed a lot of glare from cars behind me tonight as it wasn't dimming the on coming light. It also won't respond when I press or hold on the power button, its stuck on on.

Does anyone know any troubleshooting technquies?

Is the green "on" light illuminated? I'm guessing so as you say it seems to be stuck "on".

I'd do the old battery disconnect job.

Yeah the lights on and doesn't respond to the button being pressed. I'll give the battery trick a go and see what happens, but is isn't turning the acc on and off pretty much the same thing?

I don't think turning the key off resets the BCM (which the device is coupled to).

Give it a go.

Disconnect the battery, that'll give the BCM something to think about.

Body Control Module, handles all the electrical things that the ECU Engine Control Unit doesn't.

Learn something new every day. So is there a ruff time i should leave it unconnected?

30 minutes is the usual recommended timescale :)

Some info 4 u.

2010 BCM.pdf - Google Drive (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8ANHWfNw-qjMDA3MGpGbWVvS1U/edit?usp=sharing)

It's the latest model I have info for, so later models most likely do additional things as well.

Thanks Phil :goodjob:

Strange that there's no mention of the auto-dimming RVM - maybe it truly is a standalone 12V feature.

Still, won't do any harm to still try the battery disconnect trick.

This info is for FD 2010 model which is where my data ceases. Now if someone had a GD equivalent, that would be nice.

Or as Agnes Brown says, "That's nice."
