Mermaids, angels and even the Eiffel Tower rose up from the beaches of Acapulco as part of an annual sand sculpture competition.
Dressed in pink, hundreds of contestants spent six hours carving an array of sculptures for the event on Sunday on Mexico's Pacific coast.
This year marks the 40th edition of the contest, with participants having to create their sculptures with a French twist.
