Hi,
Is it possible to install an aftermarket rear camera to the stock i30 trophy 2013 GD2 headunit?
Thanks

:welcome: not aware of anyone having done it.
I would suspect there is probably some way of getting a wired one to work but less likely with a wireless one (which would otherwise be easier to install.) Be interested to hear what others say!

Yea. Cant seem to find any details on the stock wiring diagram. Probably not possible as it doesnt have an aux mode.

Moderator Phil has access to some good info, hopefully he can find out something.. :fingers:
Plus Hati and Gonz are both fairly cluey with electronics :goodjob:

I wouldn't bother if I were you. I have a rear view camera in my car but find it of limited use.
My rear parking sensors are quite sufficient for my needs.

How would the head unit display pictures
Our member hasn't provided a model or year of the vehicle in question, :disapp: so can't accurately answer.

Yes he(she) did Phil ;) 2013 GD2 Trophy.
I'm not familiar what they fit into the Trophy as a head unit, but if it can't play back DVDs or video in some form, it won't have the hardware to act as a rearview monitor.
Rear cameras don't normally use AUX input, the head units have a dedicated input that is switched by the reverse lights coming on, so it's fully automatic and it works when the unit is turned off too.
If the Trophy unit can display video, you could always pull it out from the dash and see if it has any video/AV in. If it does, something can be done to make use of a rearview cam.
You can search for the thread I did about my changeover and all the camera related experiences, but I changed the head unit in my FD. Most of the other info should be relevant for the GD too.

Thanks Hati, :-[ :head_butt: :head_butt:

Thank you everyone for your input.
The trophy comes with a 5" headunit with no SAT NAV. I was hoping there would be info out there rather than having to undo the dash and find that there is no input for a camera. I do not believe it can play DVDs as the trophy is just an enhancement of the 'Active' (base) model.
I guess the only option is to buy a new fascia to fit a 7". Can someone confirm which dash trim i require? Looking at all the ebay ones, they seem to be different to my model. I am visually aligning the dash trim to the car but i feel there are some extra holes and buttons in the wrong places.
