Well I am no longer an owner of a Pi30, just a regular i30 now.
On Tuesday I graduated from my P plates to a 'full' licence. For the guys outside of Oz I say 'full' as there are still further stages within the normal car licence (black, silver, gold) but they don't have any restrictions like the Learner and Provisional plate drivers do.

Almost but not quite.
The last stage of P plates that I was on, I was limited to 100km/h (62.5 mph), now I can do 110km/h (68.75mph, which is the 'norm' for max speed on our highways with a few exceptions)
I'm hoping I've done the conversion right............it's divide by 1.6 isn't it?
Oh and as for insurance, it's not the licence that you hold, just the age that you are and the time that you've had a licence for.
I won't see cheaper insurance at least until I'm 25 (I'm 21.5 currently)

So what does the black silver and gold levels signify (I don't believe we have these levels in West Oz)?
-
Congrats!!
Must be a good feeling.
I've got until November roughly until I'm off mine.
I haven't really been hassled by the cops too much though luckily. I don't speed or drive like a hoon so that probably has something to do with it...hehe
How much did the test cost you?
How long did it take?

It's great, a little bit of pressure off me.
The test was $36, and I got a 5 year licence (which is essentially pay 3years get 2 free) for $145.
20-30mins max. I'm not sure, didn't really think to time it.
Silver and gold licneces are related to not getting any demerit points for X amount of time, there might be a cash benefit and maybe more points. But I can't remember.

I thought it was. Silver licence is a 3 year one and gold is 5 years. Its all so long ago.

So what does the black silver and gold levels signify (I don't believe we have these levels in West Oz)?
i have Magenta ( National Heavy Licence )
the colours are for the GOOD ( Gold ) the almost Good ( silver ) and the Bad ( Black ) but it's a silly system as some people never drive and get gold licences but can be a problem on the roads from lack of experience from not driving. but just my thought's.
we have a system that could be improved a lot.

This is all fascinating info - totally novel to me in the UK
Over here when I took my test in 1981 (was a hardened biker from 1976 until then), you drove around with yer dad as passenger for a few weeks, with "P" plates stuck to the front and rear. Then, one simple 30 minute on-the-road test with an examiner, followed by half a dozen questions on our highway code, and you're legally on the road on your own. You could do all that at just 17 years old
Bit tougher staged tests these days but the result is the same

You can now enjoy all the extra's which comes without P's
What are they, by the way?
-
I can't imagine those P's..
Just one question.. You are "limited" to the 100 kph right? Well not anymore but when you first get your drivings license? Now..tell me honestly..have you been driving as you are supposed to or have you driven your i30 over 100 kph every day? :P
Congratulations whitbomb07 btw

The main ones I can think of off the top of my head would be:
- Can drive 110km/h (on most major highways/freeways the speed is 110km/h)
- You can have a blood alcohol content reading of 0.05 On P's in most states it is 0% alcohol when driving for learners and P platers.
- The cops won't target you as much
-
congrats daniel
I have till september to handover my P's. :(
Did you have to do a test to get the full license?
Up here in the NT don't think so we have to do one yet. But the rules keep changing so...
-
Lucky you...I would have loved to have an i30 when I was on my P's...despite the fact they didn't exist yet..but still!
-
Hey Ghurkha
There is a test which is all done on computer.
It comprises of 15 multiple guess questions and then 10 interactive questions which involves videos where you chose when it is safe to do something, like turn, overtake etc etc.
Thanks to everyone for the responses.

Daniel
