Title: Quick update on new i30
Post by: John B on May 14, 2014, 03:54:18
Have had the i30 just on two weeks now . Have not done a lot of Ks but love it, love it, love it ,in other words I like it.

Couple of little niggles though,  needed to go to a place on a major rd called Nerang -Southport rd, Gold Coast ,Qld so I thought I would use the Gps and see how it performed, well it was about as useful as a fart in a wet suit, after punching in all the details it informed me no street numbers available on this rd, now we are talking about a major rd with heaps of business along it, not some cart track.

The other small disappointment was when I took my grandson to the fitness centre  ,it is too far away from where I live to bother going home and then returning to pick him up so I decided to park up for an hour and wait for him. It would have been nice to have put the radio on and sit back and relax but of course unlike earlier vehicles with out all the electronics you get the warning , start your engine or suffer the consequences of a flat battery. I know all this has been mentioned in earlier post but I have now found out for myself. Next time I will take my iPod with the ear buds.

I do love the car but wonder if with all the new technology we are going a little too far, I have set the steering on normal and I think this is probably where it will stay, I don't think the Eco will be used too much if  at all, time will tell. Twice I have had to use the manual button on the Proximity smart key to unlock the car, this may be because i have walked passed the car several times with the mirrors waving at me before actually getting in the car ,I will have a look in the manual and see if it is something I am doing to cause it.

I find for the way I drive, the engine is responsive and the 6 speed transmission very smooth and I have not missed the power of the Falcon at all. Although I mentioned  technology maybe going a bit too far this does not include all the safety features which compared to older vehicles is terrific.

The rear camera is a great help when you have a back and neck problem. To conclude, this car is a pleasure to drive and I intend to keep it for as long as I can, and oh yes the wife absolutely loves it as well, and the silver goes as fast as the red. :goodjob2: :goodjob:

Great post, John.

My car is silver too, but I don't believe anything is as fast as a red one.

Haha. Mine's silver, too. And my wife's car is red. Must be a trend.

Well that must be embarrassing if your wife's car is faster than yours.

Thank you kind sir. When I was a young and found out there was no father Christmas ( think I was 21 ) :snigger: I thought growing up sucks  but you know what getting this car has been like all Christmases coming at once, getting older is not so bad.  :happydance: and it's great being able to share it on the i30 club. :goodjob2:

I know where you are coming from John (we are fairly alike I think)

I am lucky enough to be able to afford most things I could ever want but still get a real kick out of some of the smallest things.. (and the big things like a new car as well)  :victory:

John, you do know you can turn on the radio/cd/mp3 player without turning it to accessories mode and turning the rest of the electronics on... right?

Thanks Reaps , but does that not still use other electronics such as  GPS  etc. Be great if it works as you state , I thought the manual stated do not leave the accessory mode on too long but I stand to be corrected. I will have another read of the manual.

Dont know what its labeled on the ignition.  But you have the one setting right before you go to turn the engine over and start it. Which powers everything electronically. And then if you turn it a half a click back towards you. It only turns on the the centre unit. The tachometer, windows, a/c, etc are disabled.

Ive sat with it in that position for a few hours a couple of times, listening to music. Never had a problem....

Only problem is I have push button start and you have to push the button twice to obtain auxiliary .

I just get cars basic usually but. Getting all the bells and whistles just means more trouble trying to learn it and more things to break. Give me power windows, locks and im good.

That's odd. I felt cramped in the GD. Perhaps seat angle and position is a factor far more than model.:goodjob:

The proximity smart key has only buttons on it to open and lock the doors .

Should have a removable key in the fob??? Thought I had seen that in the owners manual. Do you have a regular key ignition on the column as well as the push button ignition?

Sorry, I was being a bit flippant.  I see it as basically the same as if our starter motor goes kaputt.  You can't drive it until you get it fixed.

I will just sit and not listen to my radio and wait for roadside assist, you can do that when your retired, life is just a bowl of cherries

But if the proximity sensor dies, then u cant start it. But having the key thats not a problem with ours? Sorry.... not up  to date with all the new age stuff. Might be somewhat young.... but I stay simple.  Dont have a desktop pc. Have a laptop. That I have used maybe a dozen times in two years. Lol. Only techno thing I keep up to date is cell phones..... as for cars. As long as it has pick up when accelerating, has good fuel economy, power windows, locks, music, a/c and heat. Im good lol

I have a GD Active and quite often sit for hours listening to the radio without the engine running. Not a problem.

Thank's Doggie 1, that's good to know. Next time  I will give it a go. Only thing I wondered about was if the navigation system on the i30 Elite would still be active with the radio on, guess there is only one way to find out. I know when the daughter was setting up the GPS on her i30 the warning did come up about the battery but of course the GPS was on then.
