Title: Shuddering when starting up
Post by: watashiwajay on June 04, 2014, 11:02:34
Hi all - I've got a quick question, hoping someone might have an answer:
I've got a 2014 i30 Premium (Petrol) and when I start my car, it shudders and the revs jump up and down. It doesn't happen all the time, but I think it's happening on the colder mornings here in Melbourne. I really have no idea when it comes to cars - I only understand the basics, but is this a serious issue? Should I be taking it into my dealer?
The car was delivered in February this year and just passed 4,000km today.
Thanks in advance!

The simplest solution is to report it to the service manager. Leave the car overnight so they can start it themselves and evaluate your concerns.

Have those symptoms ever occurred when the engine is already warmed up (eg, following a trip) ?

Not serious, as in it will destroy the engine, but it's not supposed to behave like that.

Hi, check my post about black smoke and engine running rough for a few seconds after sitting overnight. It sounds like you have the same issue, it is a known problem and is fixed very quickly by having the idle setup reprogrammed.

Hi all, thanks for your replies! The car was booked in to a Hyundai Dealer. They suspected there was too much, or too little fuel being injected at start up (I can't remember which one now, as it was a couple of weeks ago!). They said it would need a firmware update. I picked up the car later in the afternoon and it has been running perfectly since!

Thanks for all your suggestions and advice, what an amazing community  :)
