Some of the posts I read are quite old.
After being fined for talking on the mobile a few weeks ago (my purse is $150 lighter), I though it's time I invested in a bluetooth.
What have you found that works best? From what I can gather, the one from Hyundai isn't the best. I don't like things stuck in my year (though I work with a headset 8 hours a day).
Suggestions? Inc prices too please.

I got a quote from Hyundai to get it installed and it was about $700 AUD.
Whilst it would have been nice to be integrated into the car I wasn't overly keen on them ripping the car apart to install it and have also read here and elsewhere that it wasn't that great.

Can't remember the exact price but I bought two (one for me and one for the wife). Think it was about $360 AUD for both.
Works well and the two features I really like (more on the link above) are:
- a voice announces incoming 'callers' name or Caller ID
Can also be charged directly from a PC via USB Cable
Supports voice dial activation, redial and call reject
Pairs with up to 8 Bluetooth devices

You could get a good GPS with bluetooth for about twice the $$$

If you don't like buying from the net places like Super cheap and Dick Smiths have a good range of GPS

I got a Blueant ST3 - about $110 AUD - works great. It got a little warped in the sun tho when I was using the sunvisor to hold the sunscreen up. Still works OK tho, and it doesnt have a yank voice which is always a bonus.

I was quoted $900 by Hyundai dealer which was ridiculous.
I have got a BlueAnt too, can't remember the model number, but it was about $130 & clips on the sunvisor.
It works great.
My first one broke (the pop-out antenna wouldn't retract, although the unit itself still worked ok) but I claimed under warranty and I'd have to say they were excellent. I just returned the old one and they posted out a new one the next day, no questions asked.

I use a NavMan s90i GPS which works very well, showing incoming numbers and names from the address book (which uploads from the mobile phone).
I don't always take the GPS so I also have a sunvisor device which takes calls perfectly and can do a last number redial. I got GPS but only use it when necessary.
Looks like the ant is the go.

I bought the Ant at Dick Smith for $144.....cept it doesn't recognise my phonebook :(. I have a Nokia N95.

Phonebook issue sorted out. Just had to send all the numbers via bluetooth using the business card function.
Yeah phones OK though battery has a short life, that's the only downside.

That's good you got it sorted...
I've got a Sony K850i (also 5MP camera) and that only lasts 2 days between charges.. Fairly common for these full featured phones I'm afraid... :'(

My work gave me a crappy Telstra-branded ZTE phone. Talk time is barley more than one hour! I have to charge it daily, and it doesnt push the phonebook to the blueant, full stop. Wife's Samsung works perfectly with it, and interestingly the battery life is nearly a week (NextG also)

My work gave me a crappy Telstra-branded ZTE phone.
Is it a brown coloured flip phone...Telstra sent me freebie one for being a good customer for over 10 years.. We found it about as good as my wife's LG TU500 with slightly better battery life (on the GSM network my wife uses anyway)
Only thing was it stopped working after 6 weeks and because it came from some crowd in Queensland we had to pay $30 in costs to get it fixed under warranty (so much for a free phone) :twisted:

Nah its black and blue-silver non flip phone. I'm onto my fourth one in just over a year. They keep freezing up or the screen just turns white. Taking the battery out etc does not fix it. Personally I'm going to stick to Samsung, had a bad run with Nokia also.

think all the phone brands have taken a dive as far as quality is concerned... The cheaper Nokias are pretty dodgy. Personally found LG to be more reliable than Samsung.. Know several people including wife and daughter that have had Samsungs that did stupid things like switching themseles off halfway through a message...Sony Erricson have given me a good run...

if you get a GPS and want to use the bluetooth on it, what does it go through? does it route through the stereo or just through the GPS unit itself (this is after market ones not fitted). anyone know what the voice quality therefore would be like?
hyundai quoted me $500 for the bluetooth factory fitted but i wouldn't use it enough and would rather buy a GPS later for the money.

I have used the bluetooth on my Mio 520C and it just uses the same speaker in the unit itself as the Text to Speak feature does..
It is quite clear (More than acceptable)

Hi Dont know about the blueant never had one we have hire cars and use Parrot brand just put one in my I30 a CK3100 has an LED screen can accomodate 5 phones and $399 installed just have a problem tht the LED is not working but they will change it [cause they have not been paid yet] the other 3 I have all work fine tell you who is calling or being called mute the radio and no fines yippee

I use a Blueant thingy that clips on the visor too. Great product.
Now need to do something about the mobile phone. I have a HTC Dream which I don't even get a day out of the battery! :'(

It automatically powers down to idle when the phone is out of range for a few minutes & reconnects to the phone automatically when it senses vibrations such as some getting into the car etc. Very kewl!

And the nice lady that welcomes me speaks in a very agreeable English accent. I've not had the pleasure of BT before; do they all have spoken communications and language/accent options?
Someone said they didn't like the non-integrated visor types because there is no fixed wiring to keep it charged. Mine's been running over two weeks now without needing a charge even though it spends most of its time connected because when I move inside at home it is still often in range! Only when I move to the back of the house do I hear the little disconnecting chirp.
