Title: A day out in Sunny Southport
Post by: MarkC on June 22, 2014, 15:31:09
Went on a road trip to Southport today. Parked on the beach as the sea was about 40 miles out! The place was absolutely deserted too, which was the biggest surprise of all with the sun shining!

I can see Southport across Liverpool Bay when I am on the front at Meols.

Do they still charge you to drive onto the beach?

Spent many a sunny day doing ticket checks on the beach from Southport along to Ainsdale when I worked for Sefton Council.

Speaks volumes about Southport (and Blackpool come to that)  :undecided:

Its £4.50 to park all day, and there's loads of room. Maybe we should do a NW meet up somewhere like this, if we can depend on the weather.....

I agree. Until May I worked for an electrical distributor in Southport, and it can be the most desperately miserable place. You can tell that there was money there once, but quite a bit of property looking 'tired'. Its a shame really, but as you say, the same applies to Blackpool and also Morecambe on the west coast I suppose.

My mother grew up in Morcombe and I spent three years at Churchtown (between Garstang and Blackpool) as a kid. :)

There is a district of Southport called Churchtown....which is allegedly the last outpost of civilisation just before it turns into the wilds of Banks and Tarleton, where the locals greet each other with a "gimme six", or so I was told
