Title: Alarm standard on all models?

Do all i30s have an alarm? I always thought it was an optional extra on my 'basic' model until I opened the boot on Sunday and the horn started beeping. Pressing unlock on the keyfob stopped it, on further inspection one of the rear doors was not shut properly. The Hyundai UK website lists an alarm upgrade under accessories.

I'm pretty sure an alarm/immobiliser is standard or even mandatory these days. The "upgrade" you mentioned is (I think) for a superior device which may well have a visual indicator too.

Standard fit. 

Try this out:

Sit in drivers seat, take key out of ignition.

Press to lock all doors.

Wait a minute for system to activate then pull lever by right knee to open the bonnet.

The alarm will sound.  Well it does on mine.

The up grade is for the Thatcham Cat1.

"i30 is fitted standard with Cat 2 Immobiliser. The Alarm upgrade needs to be fitted to obtain a Thatcham approved Cat 1 system".
