Title: VP Serpentine Belt Tensioner
Post by: Phil №❶ on July 27, 2014, 10:32:17
I think my tensioner pulley bearing might be a bit sus. There is a slight noise in the motor 3.8 L and the water pump, alternator and power steering have all been replaced in the last 12 months, only one left is the tensioner. Now does anyone know whether the compete housing including the spring has to be replaced or just the pulley & bearing. Both are available on eBay 1 is ~$200.00 the other $30.00 so it does make a big difference. The engine has done now 205K. Is that about the life of these bearings, or what. If it's just the bearing, does it need to be removed with a press or can I do the job at home.

BTW, it looks like a real sod to get to, as well. Not looking forward to it.

All advice appreciated.  :)

If your talking a VP ommodore piece of piss to change, given your only changing the pulley, check the tension on your tensioner by using a torque wrench on the tensioner,if it is above 80 lbs it should good good for sometime yet,if not replace the whole thing,I have the VN,I have had to do mine a couple of times

Thanks Rick-p :hatoff:

For our international cousins, "piece of piss" means, "easy".
