what do you guys think?
Used 2007 Silver turbo-diesel SX , 26,000kms "18700" drive away (probably negotiable to 17.5), OR
New 2009 petrol SX, "19990" drive away (also probably neg).
there's also a 2008 petrol sx, 26000kms about 18500 drive away too...
i was initially looking for a brand new car to get away from the uncertainty of used cars. but i don't know about this comparison!
opinions please!

It may depends on the depth of your pocket.
With the 2007 you will only get the balance of warranty. So is 3 years worth $1290?
Ask about its history. It could be the seller has p/x for another car or is there a more sinister story behind it.
Can you get the previous owners name and if local give then a ring to ask about history.
Could you get the 2009 for $1290 discount or near to that? If so, then personally I'd go for the 2009.
Are they on sale at the same garage. If so, then you could try and play 1 off against the other.
Just a few ideas.

New.
Basically, you don't need to stress about previous owners etc etc etc, and you have the guaranteed 5 year unlimited KM warranty right from the get-go. It's worth the extra bit of cash initially, as it's yours right from the start.

.. and you get that "new car" smell :D
I go new every time.. definitely worth the peace of mind as Duckman said :)

I would drive the diesel before you make a decision.. has it been optioned up (cruise +/or ESP)
I love my diesel (I would probably opt for a diesel at 17,500 over a new petrol at 19,990...)

dazz has a point,a new diesel is around $23.000[base model manual] and petrol new $19.990 base model. maybee ask for service history and known major repairs if any. steve...
-
I always buy new cars, but it costs more $, i know a few people that always buy late model used and don't have any probs also they save.
I'm with Dazz, i would drive the diesel, but i like Torque at low rev's, the petrol need to rev to pull. but everyone is different. mine goes better now with 33,000 up than new.
go with your heart, but drive them all to see what suits you.

it's worth looking at a couple more dealers, also see if any have some demo model with maybe max 100k on? some people say not to touch the demo's as they are broken in by other drivers but i really don't see the difference between that and a used car. some demo's are optioned up with extras and they are a bit cheaper.

Demo's are usually a good buy because the dealer gets some sort of discount when they register a demo which means they can often pass on a considerable saving.. :D

I have that currently! I also can't roll the windows down for another day or so because of the window tinting.
While I would go new, I do prefer the way the diesel drives over the petrol.
