I didn't know they would put the fake exhaust under, I think it's great although it's fake, I'm thinking about taking it to a exhaust workshop before winter to check if they can connect them to the real exhaust legally.

I can open it 2 ways. fully open or a gap like on the picture.

Great stuff Hemmi... Congrats...
Car looks great... Guess they had to put dummy exhausts in or you would have had ugly gaps...
Thanks for the pix, looking forward to feedback on driveability, fuel consumption etc...
Cheers,

It surely ranks as one of the nicest looking i30 cars we have on the forum. A true beaut !
Question: What is the meaning of the "11" in the middle of the number plate?
-
It surely ranks as one of the nicest looking i30 cars we have on the forum. A true beaut !
Question: What is the meaning of the "11" in the middle of the number plate?
thanks
The 11 is 2011 and stands for next inspection, not the dealer inspection but the icelandic car inspections, when you buy a new car you will have to get your car tested (brakes, seatbelts, etc etc) after 3 years, after that its 2 years and then once every year.
The last number in the license plate is the month you go to check your car, I got 0 so I will go October - December.
1=January, 2=February etc...
-
Thanks Hemmi - great info. Not too different from the UK mandates, except we don't have those mandates emblazoned into the reg plate
-
Guys,
On the North Island (e.g. remainder of Australia above Tasmania) I think most State and Territories have mandatory vehicle inspections. In Tasmania this doesn't happen. If for some reason your Registration expires you have to "go over the pits" but otherwise unless you get a yellow sticker when the Cops are doing a random inspection it's just business as usual!
Scary stuff really (there are some pretty ordinary vehicles on the road)
Regards,
Dazz

Congrats on getting you i30 at last.
During the winter I presume you get lots and lots of snow etc
will you need to use snow chains or are the roads kept reasonably clear?
If so, is there enough room for them around the wheel arch and will they have to be i30 custom made?
How does this effect body corrosion and do you still get the 6 yyear body warranty?
-
eye30:
If it snows in the capital the roads are cleaned(?) but it usually doesn't snow much here, except last winter which was horrible, but cars here never use chains, only winter tires or nailed winter tires, about the warranty I only get 3 years
-

Good Mornin' Hemmi (or should I say goodnight!)
Noticed you only tinted the back windows.. Aren't you allowed to tint the ones adjacent to the driver?
Also have given you something to keep the ladies at bay (you might need it now you've got a chick magnet...
)

Hemmi,
Your car is stunning.
Top Stuff. I see your a fan of Maguiars products. I can see it works by your pics
-
thanks eyma,
yeah you'd think Iceland would be the last place on earth to get a sunroof, but it's very popular here, at least we have sun in the summer, not raining like other members :? im thinking about getting a real twin exhaust.
oh yeah Meguiars works! your just seeing a picture, you should see it with your own eyes 8-)

Hemmi - what level of tint is that on your glass?
I'm thinking of getting light smoke (15% tint) on the fronts and smoke (35% tint) on the backs - titanium, naturally!

Maybe 35%?

Did you get the car with the body kit or did you fit it your self?
-
My (wife's) car is booked in for tints on Saturday morning - Light Smoke on the fronts and Smoke on the rears - £170 (350aud) the lot! The people who are doing it did my last 2 cars and they do a top job.
Boy am I in trouble with the wife again

the sunroof is great! the full leather looks really premium, and the dual exhaust gives a really sporty look! congrats ! i wish you lots of km/miles with no accidents! i think the only thing missing is the cruise control, and an arm-rest in the back(i have leather and textile and no armrest) why don't you put the i-pod in the special compartment? anyway, GREAT CAR!! peace!!

Hemmi thinks he'd have problems with the Icelandic police - he doesn't know what trouble is, Dazz!
Not everyone likes the idea of tints, if you know what I mean 8-)

Congrats Hemmi... Your car is getting some recognition!!!!
Fancy, the cheek of it (pinching pix from another website) shame on them...

Hemmi - You're an international legend already! Try translating some of the Korean comments - if you haven't already - and let me know if you understand any of them!

yeah I tried to translate some of it, doesn't make much sense

So if you're a mouse you won't be needing that car. Can I have it for spare parts? Tell you what, I'll give you 5 pies for it.

I would like to hear more opinions, I wont bite

I'd be surprised if anyone doesn't like them 8-)
-
Hemmi,
I would be a bit concerned about Dazz wanting a look under your skirt. Do you Icelanders wear kilts?
-

Hi. Nice looking car mate but does any one know if we get the same rear end over here in Aus apart from the twin exhaust?
Mine should arive in the next 4 weeks and i think yours looks great.
Thanks in advance
Brownie
-
Hi CB339 and welcome to the club,
If you're referring to the body kit I think it's not available in Aus yet. It's designed by MS Design.
-
Q. Why does everyone say they like Hemmi's bodykit and adapted twin exhaust?
A. Because they're gorgeous, and I'm jealous
-
Thanks
-
noticed all the attention in this thread and i was like...hmm...what could it all be about...
...
OMG I HAVE BEEN MISSING ON SO MUCH! lol...what an AWESOME kit! and gawsh >< im jealous too! does the new exhaust cause any low rumble/growl sound? or is it just a change of the tip at the end?
man...loving your car! lol
-
I love your kit too Hemmi!!
Cheers
Brian
-
hi link_1111 and thanks ;)
-
Hey Hemmi
It hasn't been cold enough since I bought mine to see the smoke!!!
Mind you that is not far away and that may then make me think about altering to something like yours!
Cheers
Brian
-
Hello Hemmi, hello all...
first of all, I would like to tell you Hemmi, that your car looks great. But to be honest I like it much more with those old (I know, they were fake) exhasts.
Now to the big deal.
I just came from Hyundai shop here in Slovakia and ORDERED  :D. First I wanted Vivid Blue, but then I saw your pictures and I decided to buy the same colour as you have :)
Marek
-
Hi Marek and welcome to the club
When will you be getting your i30?
-
Welcome marekmikos
What's the delivery time?
-
I have to wait for tinted windows and licence plates. So lets hope it will be on wednesday next week.
im so excited
-
Welcome to the club Marek...
What model did you go for and have you ordered Petrol or Diesel?
You obviously didn't see my lovely moonlight blue model before you decided on the colour...
-
Hi marekmikos, glad you decided to get the best color :P
Remember to vote for the color in the color poll
-
Hi Hemmi,
I for one think your car looks much better with the real twin exhausts...
-
:'(

Guess I'll have to go tomorrow and buy winter tires.
-
just peeked out my window and saw this! Snow
That's absolutely awesome... peek out my window at the moment and all I can see is bushfire smoke
-
I don't remember if it was mentioned in my facts about Iceland thread, but weather here can change dramaticly from day to day, so maybe I wont have to get snow tires yet.
Current forecast.

Well I bought 4 kumho's winter tires, they work great in the snow and ice and now I'm 700€ poorer :P
-
:o Snow already!!!!! and it's only October 3rd!!!! :o
Feels like it's coming to UK soon.
-
WOW your sunroof alone makes me want your car... niiiice, dual exhaust is a nice touch too but im more of a [censored] cannon type of guy, but on the i30 i think the dual exhausts look real nice. cannons drone out too much shit for me to like them anymore.
-
thanks teamgeorge

Beautiful car! It's so great to see what you can do with the i30.

Absolutely!

one of my side skirts is starting to gap at the back, must be bad glue or something, I dont recall any of our members with the MS bodykit having this problem,
I'll call the dealer tomorrow and check if they'll fix it,
Maybe the "extreme" heatwave here few days ago melted the glue
-
Called the dealer, I got time on wednesday at their paintshop, I will get a loan car, hopefully i30 :)
-
Love your work, Hemmi!
Look forward to seeing more...

Well its at least cooler to see smoke coming out of them, the originals were fake

Well.. I know you open the roof when it's -5°C, -10°C or +20°C, so I know there is no need for some special sun for you..
I'm looking at the hemmi's i30 interior and I just love how the leather looks.. 8) damn
Oh..and one more thing.. I was looking at the pictures, you took at night.. There's noone walking around :D was it taken at i don't know 4am? :)

There isn't always a lack of sunshine in winters here, when the sun shines like now theres cold out side, and the roads are wet, So I only open the sunroof in sunny and dry days.
And yes the pictures were taken around 3 or 4 AM, I was on night shift and got bored

Nobody here has noticed they are fake to be honest with you, the only comments I have had go something like
"Coooooool, it has shaped pipes like the new Civic!!"
I just smile and agree
As long as that continues no need to spend my hard earned in these times of trouble I reckon
Hold on....why am I writing this in Hemmi's i30   Time for a copy and bump to bumpkins i30 I reckon

It's noticeable here, when it's cold outside it's very obvious that there is no smoke coming out the pipes, instead coming underneath the car
I think it's time you go take more pictures of your car and post them in your thread, or are you waiting for summer

Wow , i love the lights for the lower *pocket* and the ashtray, if i show the wife she'll have a tanty next to me until i make it happen :D.
I think youve inspired me enough to go and get some LED's and resistors and have a play :D
Any examples on how to pull that part of the dash apart to get in behind it ? or what parts you used (you mentioned a install guide but i cant see it)

There are two screws inside the compartment, just unscrew them and pull the thing out. I used 12V from the 12V connector below, do you have any experience in electronics? I didn't make a install guide because there didn't seem to be much interest. Just send me PM for info
-
I dont really have much experience in electronics but i can fight my way through some simple pcb diagrams.
I was reading yesterday about using the resistors to get the required voltage to the LED, seemed simple enough. (I've assemebled one of these from parts before http://wbo2.com/2a0/default.htm (http://wbo2.com/2a0/default.htm) and it seemed to work)
Ive had a play with some things before and thought of getting some biscuit board and some LED's from the local shop to have a bit of a fiddle :)
Not driving the i30 much at the moment as with 4200km's+(~2100km's each way+ touristy activities) in one trip as i'll be driving from Adelaide to Brisbane i dont want to hit the 7500km service (if i bother with it) halfway back which was going to happen, besides, need to use the older fuel in the other car before it goes off :) So ive got a day or 2 to pull it apart and have a little looksie.
I'll whiz you a PM and get the gorey details :)
-
Hemmi...Your i30 is one of my favourites...it's so original! Love it! :)

Saw my car at the dealership today, pick it up tomorrow - 2 weeks after ordering it. Then the fun begins......

Great photos as always....
and a great looking car, despite the dust (which I couldn't see :))

I can see the dust but it's not enough to get "steamed up" over
Great photos...Iceland certainly has some interesting photo opportunities.. :D

Thanks guys

A bit dusty? I don't think so.
Great photos Hemmi as always and still in my opinion "THE" car.
By the way, I use Meguiar's products on all my cars. They're great.
It's really interesting to see photos of Iceland too, in fact from all the members around the globe, to see the the different landscapes and cultures.
Many, many years ago we used to have friends from Iceland when we lived in Majimup in the south-west of Western Australia so learned a little about it, but would love to visit and see more.

mmm nice photoshopped image
almost makes me want to consider the grey
do it! do it! do it! One of the most popular colors
The color goes well with big rims and tinted windows, plus the body kit, I think that's the main reason so many different people like the combination of my car :)
-
ive emailed six different sitesabout m+s and tomato body kits and they all told me item is to big to ship.

If it's any consolation accim, I saw your smileys in the post and knew that you were having a bit of a laugh, I guess that is one of the problems of communication these days, it is so easy to get it wrong without trying.
I was on a management course the other week and 70% of communication is in body language so it is hardly surprising that using a forum or email can often be misconstrued.
I myself have had to explain a couple of my comments also, so obviously Scottish and Slovenian humour is pretty similar
PS-Back on topic - Hemmi, your i30 is my second favourite one in the whole wide world :D
-
I still think Hemmi's i30 is the nicest I've ever seen, and that includes those on the Korean club :)
Thanks :D

Hemmi,
Two questions:
What is the exact code for your body paint?
Are your rims hyundai specific?
Regards, Matt

Hemmi,
Two questions:

Hmmm, I'm not sure what the code is, but it's steel gray and has been discontinued.
The rims are from MS Design, they came with the body kit, as 2i30s mentioned there is one set of them here for sale, only difference is that they are repainted.

-
Hi Hemmi,
what make and what size are the wheels you have. I really lke the design, and lookin to put a set on our i30CW..
cheers
-
Hi Newey Welcome to the club see post #160 (2 before yours) They are from MS designs and they came with the bodykit 18" I believe (One of our moderators Bumpkin has the same wheels) as that other post says there was a repainted set on here for sale (Not sure if they ever sold -think they were somewhere in europe...)
Hemmi might be able to tell you more when he sees your entry (In the meantime I'd google MS designs or MS designs wheels)
-
Hi newey, Dazz has given you the info, they come as standard with the European sport pack (MS Design make the body kit and wheels).

Thanks guys
I try to keep it clean, I havent had any snow since beginning of january, but instead a lot of dust, many people here have nailed tyres on their cars, I don't know why, its rather useless here

Hi Hemmi,
Iceland is small but also a great and exemplary country.
Perhaps i can understand why
EDIT: everything seems just... sterilized.

I tried to nail some tires on to a billy cart once.. just gave me lots of punctures...

I suppose that "nailed tyres" are the winter tyres with spikes on them?
(sorry, a silly question maybe :-[)

Yes i'm using this picture...i hope it's ok with you :)

That's impossible! Especially if you take photos of your car in those great landscapes from Iceland.
Keep up the good work ;)

If I had Hemmi's photographic experience I would open a web site selling landscape pictures of Iceland and also get some into a few art gals and shops. I think you can even get pictures printed on canvas these days

I'll promise I'll take some pics of my car this summer, The only upcoming event I know of for my car is at my sisters wedding in late july

I was distracted and hit the car in front of me in a busy road today, thankfully this all happened at low speed. The license plate also got a little crumbled.
I'll go to my insurance company tomorrow to estimate the damage, my insurance will pay for the other car who got minor damage, they will also repair my car, I'm not sure how much I have to pay, I only have to pay a minimum fee, I don't remember what my minimum responsibility is, hopefully not much :'(
I dont think I get a new bumper since the damage isn't that much.
Ohh well I'm just glad there wasn't more damage.
-
I suffer with you... :'( :'( :'(
-
Unlucky Hemmi - these things do happen I'm afraid :'(
You'll soon have it back looking good as new...

Feel your pain Hemmi.

Damn! not good Hemmi (I hope the financial pain is minimal) :'(
-
Back from the insurance and the guy there estimated the damage around 250000 isk (1320 gbp)
My co-insurance fee is 65000 isk (345 gbp)
I have 4 years to repair the car, so I'm in no hurry, I also don't have any money now, so I'll just wait for a few months.
-
I have 4 years to repair the car,
Sorry to here of your mishap.
Never heard of a deferred repair?
Seems a lot (250000 isk (1320 gbp)) for a few scratches.
Are they going to respray the whole front end or what do they intend to do?
-

The bumper is too damaged to be repaired, the crack in it goes all the way to the fog light, it's cheaper to get a new one and spray it. They also have to repair and spray the upper bodykit (the one at the grille) + I will let them repair the scratches I have on my lower bumper (bodykit) from another incident :)
But anyway this was just a rough estimate I will get a better price when I get this repaired, I only have to pay my co-insurance
-
Given the new parts the price seems more reasonable.
-
:'( know how it feels. had my scratch 30 mins after delivery. Hope your insurance will not go much up next year
-

I will loose my 10% discount of all my insurances including my apartment for one year :(

I'm sorry to hear about your car hemmi :'( when my wife's cw got smashed in the rear her new bumber came from Hyundai allready painted Chrystal white.
-
Hi Hemmi...i'm sorry for the damage :(. This has also happened to me today on my way to work when a taxi driver wasn't paying attention and ran a little into my back. But mine is ok, you can hardly see a scratch...it was a very minor impact.
The co-insurance fee is a fix sum or depends of the total damage in Iceland?
-
Don't worry Hemmi. In the end, it's just a car (a nice one, but still..). You'll fix it and that will be it. Be happy there wasn't any pedestrian between you and the car in front :) That would be much worse.
If you'll be takin' pics, take them from behind and that's it
-

My co-insurance is 65.000 isk, it doesn't matter if the damage is 250.000 isk or 1.000.000 isk, I always pay 65.000 isk, I don't have to pay it if I don't want the repair.
I think the minimum co-insurance is 60.000 isk, if you choose higher like 100.000 isk or 150.000 isk you dont pay as much yearly for the insurance. I choose 65.000 isk but that mean my yearly insurance is a little higher, but instead I pay less if I have an accident.
If you'll be takin' pics, take them from behind and that's it
Or just fix the damage in Photoshop

Hemmi
We have places in the UK which do plastic welding, do they exist in Iceland??
Just thinking that an invisible weld and spray would be a cheaper option than a complete new bumper and could possibly be the same cost to yourself as your isurance excess where you would not have to claim on your insurance and lose your 10% discount on all insurances next year

I've heard of plastic welding, probably somebody here who does that.
It doesn't matter if I fix this myself I will loose my 10%, my insurances will have to pay for the damage on the other car.
So the best thing in the situation is to go to some auto repair shop and send the bill to my insurance, and I then pay my part.
-
Ahh OK :'(
-
It doesn't matter if I fix this myself I will loose my 10%, my insurances will have to pay for the damage on the other car.
Re insurance.
If you paid for the repair to the other car would that be less than or equal to the 10% you'll loose on renewal?
If so, could you pay then you would not be penalised.
-
I think Hemmi should retake his driving test - he's clearly a driver who's easily distracted.
Actually, scrub that, he should be taken off the road. I'll buy your i30 Hemmi - how does 300000 isk sound?
-

My yearly insurance (car+apartment) is 134.798 isk (£710)
So the 10% discount is somewhere around 13.000 isk (£69) I'm pretty sure the fix on the other car costs more

Sorry for all the questions but don't see much of you now :'(

The rims are 18" and 7.5"
I don't know what the offset is.

I was going to pick up my car from the dealer today with a brand new front bumper but when arriving I noticed some damage on the new bumper on the passenger side, looks like somebody hit it while the car was waiting for me :(
The security cameras most likely caught it on tape, but this is no extra cost for me, they took it back in and I will hopefully get it next week.

Damn, you really don't have luck with that bumper. I guess you'll have to ps it for a while :goodjob:
Hope you get it back soon (with new bumper)

It's just to expensive to keep when salary stays still and everything else goes up day after day :-\

Yeah m8, i have to agree with you, same problem here  + our retarded government like you wouldnt believe it!!
So far i can slightly manage things by getting sort of a second low pay job to patch holes.
