G'day all.
My name is Paul, and hopefully everything goes well on Friday and I get to order a brand new SX manual 2.0l Wagon.
I'm 186cm (6'2") and tip the scales at 105kg, but found the car to be vey spacious and still have plenty of room in the back seat for the kids.
I'm at work at the moment, so dont have tooooooo much time to browse here, so can people let me know what the "must have" options are - the ones that aren't too expensive that is, and if there are any problems to look out for.
I also ride a Honda CBR1100XX, and want to use the i30 to tow the bike to Phillip Island for track days. How does the i30 handle towing.
I'm sure that I'll have plenty of questions in the near future, so thank you in advance for all answers/information given
Paul

Hi Paul and welcome to the club...
Apart from the $320 for the metallic paint if you want a metallic colour I would definately go for cruise and fog lights for extra $400 (a bargain) and most would also go the side and curtain airbags for an extra $700 aside from that I'd only go the headlight protectors and rear parking sensors (depending on cost)
The diesel is great for towing but the 2.0 petrol shouldn't have any trouble towing a bike and trailer...

Hi Paul and welcome

Well, it is official now. An order has been placed for an i30 SXcw 2.0l manual. I wanted one in Steel Grey, but unfortunately that colour is no longer available and has been superceded by something along the lines of "Hyper Silver". (told the dealer if the new colour was anything like Continental Silver, then I didnt want it - no offence - and the colour was then to be vivid blue). The dealer told me the colour would be at least close to Steel Grey - I'll have to wait and see.
Options added to the order (having to be mindful of the cost):
Protectz Pack (6 airbag)
Rear Spoiler
Headlight Covers
Bonnet Protector
Towbar (with plugs)
Factory Bluetooth (with the option of if it is not good enough to have it replaced with a Motorola Unit at no cost)
Window tint (darkest legal tint)
An overall cost of $25,750 driveaway with 8yr/200,000km warranty and roadside assist.
I would have like other things, but I still have to pay for this yet.......
The biggest downside to this is the expected delivery date - 31/07/2009.
Now the wait begins.........

That's something quite extraordinary and worth real money!!

Appears to be a good deal.. congratulations
This time last year the wait was 3 months plus...
But you'll still be at 6 & 7's waiting....

we feel like children waiting for christmas day. [still 4 weeks till cw arives]

Spoke to the dealer today.
Steel Grey is definitely gone and is being superceded by "Hyper Silver" (cannot find it on any hyundai web site - but have only had a quick look). Dealer assures me that the new colour is similar to Steel Grey. He has also said that when the car arrives and if I dont like it, then I can have a different colour (Vivid blue).
I will have to wait and see. There have been no colour samples given out yet.
And I have been told that my i30 is on the ship that is due to dock on 20/06/2009, so I should have it on or before 30/06/2009.
The wait is killing me, and it is still May.........

Many of us have been there and know how you feel (I am waiting to move into a new house and every week that goes by I only seem to be getting half a week closer )
That Hyper Silver colour is a real mystery ... No car on the USA or New Zealand Hyundai site uses that colour... Hyper Silver is usually a very bright silver colour used for Mag Wheels :P

If that is the colour, then it will mean that I wil end up with a Vivid Blue wagon...... (wife already owns a silver Honda Jazz and my blackbird is Iron Nail Grey)

I reckon it will be a fair bit darker than the wheel Hyper Silver (which is close to the current continental silver that is on offer) .. I'm still searching other Hyundai sites...

The new genesis emblem has wings that are Hyper Silver Metallic ? see...
The sedans that went on sale in the new year in Korea and China sport a Genesis emblem on the front grille and in the center of the wheels, described by the company as "the Genesis logotype set in a black hexagonal shield framed by a pair of wings. The wings, executed in a hyper-metallic silver, symbolize the spirit of flight and soaring above it all." Genesis models for all other markets will forgo the Bentley-esque wings for the traditional Hyundai "H" logo.

Still trying to find an actual Hyper Metallic Genesis ( Strangely most of the pix of the genesis I've seen have been in a Gun Metal like grey colour...)

Hi guys,
Haven't been able to contribute too much since I joined - the ship my car is on isnt due to dock until June 20th.
But, as an update and a shout out to the dealer, my old car that was being used as a trade in for the CW on order was stolen from my work on Tuesday afternoon............. The dealer has been great, even to the point of "sorting something out" between the time of giving back the insurance hire car and my car being ready. I'm not really used to receiving customer service from companies (let alone car salesmen) these days, so from how I have been dealt with from the day I walked through the front door to this incident has been great.
Is it allowed to name this dealer for good service?

The dealer is Cambur Hyundai in Frankston, Victoria

Welcome,
I couldn't wait on the CW so when I was offered the choice of red, black or white, I took white (already have a red Hatch)
It's worth the wait and it is not as far away as it seems

Great news Paul.. Looking forward to hearing all about it... :D

Picked it up this morning. When the weather clears up a bit, I will grab the trusty Fuji camera and take a few pics. The Hyper Silver isn't as light as I had feared, although I would have preferred the Steel Grey.
The initial impression is that I will have to keep an eye on the tacho, coz the engine is quiet. I had to tow a trailer on the way to work today (albeit an empty bike trailer), and there was very little feel through the car as the trailer was bouncing around.
I have also found that it is very easy to sit and cruise in the wrong gear - ie. stay in fourth instead of shifting into fifth........
Love the USB port, and navigation through multiple directories on the stick was very easy to work out (without RTFM first :D)
I haven't had a chance to read the mountain of info that came with the car, so I have to ask - how do you turn the esp on? And also, is there an easy way to change the bite point of the clutch, or is it just something that I will have to get used to?
Was a little surprised to hear the first oil change is not until 15,000km. I will be taking them up on the option of first change at 1,000km - especially on a new engine - guess I'm a bit old school.

Also have to work out an acronym for my rego - XEG 038.

As much as KEG springs to mind, I reckon ZEG38 is the go.
Also, you don't turn the ESP on mate, instead you can disable it with the button to the right of the steering column on the dash. A light will warn you it is off on the instrument cluster.
See this thread about the clutch friction point: https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php/topic,3461.0.html

Thanks mate.
The best my wife came up with for XEG was eXtremely Erratic Guy...........
-
Erotic vice Erratic, and you'd probably buy her a midori and lemonade!
-
Congrats on picking up your I30cw, now the enjoyment begins

Congrats M8 looking forward to the photos..
P.S. It is only an inspection at the 1000km free service (they won't change the oil unless you ask and pay..) Most of us have changed the first lot at around 7500kms..

I'm sure it says that in the manual too. but yeah pulling an empty trailer would be OK i would think. it's more guidelines then rules, right? :D
-
an empty motorbike trailer wouldnt weigh more than a car load of people.
