I thought it would be a good idea if we all gave the price we paid, area bought from, with specs and accessories of the car. This is so that prospective buyers know roughly how much they should be looking at, to know they aren't getting ripped off by the dealer. I know there is a couple of similar threads, but nothing as clear cut as I'm hoping this one will be.
I just signed the papers today, I get it in about 3 weeks. I don't think I got ripped off, but at the same time I don't think I got the best deal possible. But who knows, maybe I paid too much?
I payed $23,600 for the manual petrol SLX, drive away.
with:
- metallic paint (steel grey)
-bonnet protector
-weather shields
-headlight protectors
-full tank of petrol
-green slip and rego
I also payed an extra $1030 for paint protection (crystal glaze), window tinting and electronic rust proofing.
I'm in the Newcastle area in Australia.

sounds like agood deal,in march i bought an sx manual hatch $19.990 and an sx auto cw $26.900 ,cruse, mats, weathersheilds, factory mags, full tank of fuel and on road. [i added aftermarket wheels on my hatch 17x7.5 ]
-
Welcome nick and thanks for sharing that info...
Unfortunately it's not always that clear cut.. because someone might have paid less or more but got either a really lousy trade price or got heaps for a clunker....

i30 SX cw 2.0L manual
Options added to the order (having to be mindful of the cost):
Protectz Pack (6 airbag)
Rear Spoiler
Headlight Covers
Bonnet Protector
Towbar (with plugs)

Window tint (darkest legal tint)
An overall cost of $25,750 driveaway with 8yr/200,000km warranty and roadside assist.
But that includes an extremely crappy trade in on a 96 Magna wagon with 350,000km on the clock.....
-

Hy oz advertise Five Year Unlimited Kilometre Warranty.
You got an extra 3 years warranty.
Is this underwritten by the dealer rather than Hy Oz?

You would have blown quite a bit on your less than 4 year old Impeza Brian?
-
Not really Dazz, the Impreza was an ex-demo when I bought her so she was 12 months old with 12,000 miles on the clock. Still had 2 years manufacturers warranty and I got it for £9995 with £3,500 for my 98 Impreza Sport against it. I usually go by £1000 per annum depreciation as a rough guide, so £10k to £6k in 3 years was a bit over that, however with the vast increases in taxation for cars like Imprezas heading our way it was a good time to swap. (Incidentally, 5 weeks after I bought the i30 I noticed that the Subaru dealer was selling Imprezas the same age as mine with similar mileage for the price I got, so if I had waited I would have lost even more :'()
I guess everybodies idea of a good deal is different but I would say that when it comes to cars sometimes you just have to say stuffit and remember that the only person REALLY getting a good deal is the dealer
-
You are right Brian.. that wasn't too bad....
I worked for a car dealer in the mid nineties for a very short period and over here on even a mid priced trade they end up giving you about A$3000 on average less than they hope to sell it for...
The guys I used to work for would estimate what they could sell it for then keep finding excuses to drop the trade price.. "only 5000kms left in the tires, cost to replace windscreen (chipped), a bit of body work here, rego nearly expired etc...)

On the order sheet it was written as "3 year / 200,000km extended warranty", and the dealer I went to was the only one offering this, so I would have to assume that it is a dealer warranty - but would have to be underwritten by Hyundai in some manner.

I have posted this elsewhere, but so others don't have to trawl if they want the info:

Hayseed, which dealer did you get this deal through?
I went through the car buying service (http://www.teacherscreditunion.com.au/Extra_services/Car%20Buying.aspx) that my credit union (NSW Teacher's Credit Union (http://www.teacherscreditunion.com.au)) has. So, it's not an option available to everyone unfortunately. I also scored a $500 discount because I work in an Educational Institution.
The dealer they got the car from though was Barry Smith Holden & Hyundai (http://www.barrysmith.com.au/).

Hyundai i30 CW 1.6 CRDI manual
:arrow: approx AUS $28,688 (I think) -> 16,500 EUR
It's actually almost basic model, with not that much equipment. But still..it has enough for me:
- manual a/c
- electric windows
- 6 airbags
- Hyundai radio of course (with mp3/ipod/USB plugins)
- metallic paint
- i30 carpet floor mats
- board computer
- parking sensor (PDC)
- ...
- 4 year warranty / unlimited kilometers
- 4 year free of servicing (the best part for me)
I think it's a reasonable price 8) I could have bought Ford Focus, Opel Astra or some other car for that money, but so far I've done 27,000 kms and would definitely buy it again

What on earth did you do to the car salesman to get that kind of deal?!
We are repeat customers so they look after us - It amazes me that people don't factor customer loyalty into a purchase as large as a car, and shop around at every dealer they can - but a car dealer is like any other business - the best customer is a repeat customer so they usually look after you. They know when it comes to services or time to trade or update it, we go to them first.

SX 2.0L petrol
Automatic
Vivid Blue
Decided this time to buy my new vehicle through the 'Motor Market' (a service provided by my work union membership) here in Brisbane, Queensland.
AUS$20,980 driveaway (with 12 months registration and CTP insurance). This price was confirmed prior to my declaring my intention to trade in an existing vehicle. The broker (what a great guy) was able to get the figure I wanted for my trade.
Paid the deposit late last month (over the phone) and advised this week to expect delivery next week (fingers crossed).
Looking forward to owning an i30.
I,ve enjoyed reading all the threads here over the last week or so since joining :).
-
Welcome redted...
Sounds like a good deal hope it comes next week.. don't forget to post some photos.. please

SX 2.0L Petrol, Manual Hatch.
- Hyper Silver metallic paint
- floor mats
- tinted windows (1/2 price to $300)
- 12 months rego
Traded in my 1990 Supra for only 2k, wished I had time to sell it off privately, but would have taken too long and there were heaps of problems with the car.
After trade in price is AUD$18630. Still wished I could afford the SLX :'( Will miss the fog lights, steering audio controls and the trip computer.

Hi M8.. you can retro fit fog lights later for a few hundred .. (they aren't very effective but do look good) and there should be a way to add after market audio to the steering wheel but don't think anyone has found an inexpensive way yet...

HI Just like Jen, I purchased my SR i30 through Hyundai on the Gold Coast.
Sounds like I got a good deal. Paid $26,600 drive away with 12mths rego on road costs etc. full fuel tank.
It pays to try to bargain with the sales rep.
Had to pay for the extras though. $1650 for Paint protection, tinted windows, electronic rust protection & full interior protection.
-
Lea, is that $26,600 for a manual? :) That's a good deal!
I was told not to bother with the paint protection since I'm getting ceramic white...
All up I'm paying $27,880 for a SR, auto, including full tank of fuel, premium plates, dash mat, floor mats and rear park assist. I'll be getting the tint done at Solartint.
-
yes sweetbix,it is a manual, that was also including the extra for the metallic paint.
I told them I had gotten a quote from private fleet.com and if they matched it I would buy from them. They agreed.

anyone in melbourne, mind to intro where to get one?

Depends on where in Melbourne you are. I got my Viv from Harrison Hyundai in Melton. She is an SLX CRDi manual and came with mats, tint, exterior and interior protection treatment, a full tank of diesel, a cargo net for the boot. She cost about 28k. They were really great and have a key return service and extended warranty. I'm happy to pass on their info to you if you want to send me a message.
