Title: Hi from Ohio!
Post by: ikev85 on September 23, 2014, 07:08:59
Picked up a new '14 Elantra GT, silver with blue leather, 6sp manual. My first non-VW product in a decade. So far so good.

I want to figure out adding OEM rear fog lights and do some window tinting, other than that I'm pretty happy with it!

Good spot, I hadn't even noticed that :)

I wonder why they call it an Elantra GT in the US  it'd be much simpler if they were called the same world wide...especially when ordering after market parts.

Thanks for all the positive feedback :) in the US and Canada each state or province handles license plates differently. California uses a more european model where the plate always stays with the car. Here in Ohio you own and pay tax on the plate so you own it and can transfer it to whatever vehicle as long as the tax is current.

I'll try to get some better photos later on... The blue is kind of difficult to photograph for some reason.

The Elantra name has a lot of recognition here... But this is a totally different vehicle. Personally I'm hunting for a nice i30 badge to replace it with :D

Well, I'm no photographer either... Just at the mercy of the iPhone!

Does anyone have a good source for OEM and/or aftermarket parts?

Nice GT mate. The head office in Sydney had some blue interior in the workshop when they were designing the SR kit. It's different and probably looks much better in the vehicle that on a pallet lol.

Jump on eBay Australia or UK I'm sure you'll find some emblems to buy.

I'm a bit worried about longevity... Asian cars aren't known for their long lasting leather interiors (looking at you Honda/Acura)
This one was built in Feb 2014 and probably sat on the dealer lot for a while... Americans have an aversion to the manual gearbox. The rear seat bottoms seem kind of dry to me, almost like they would crack if left in direct sunlight for a summer. I haven't put any conditioner on them as of yet.

The seats are a darker blue than I can get a good picture of at the moment. The dealer took down the Internet posting or I'd just steal those.

I am still hunting for even a part number of a LHD light switch stalk with front and rear fog lights and the part number for the housings... After that I have to figure out how to wire the thing and whatever ECU programming goes along with that.

in the VW world there is an aftermarket program me called VCDS that I can plug an ODBII to USB adapter into my computer and change most anything in the ECU. Does such a thing exist for Hyundai vehicles?

Yup! It is very pretty... Just hard to photograph unless you're in a shaded area.

Here is some inspiration of what I want to do. Thule roof rack/fairing, rockblokz mud flaps, some tinting.

first 'mod' done: roof rack! these are the OEM Hyundai/yakima roof bars. I ordered a fairing from amazon but it was the wrong size so... the correct one will be here tomorrow for my sticker placing pleasure.

holding off on pulling the trigger on rally mud flaps just yet. Might be doing steel weels and snow tyres for winter time.

on a side note, I hit 1100 miles today and have been getting ~33mpg on the freeway, ~28mpg in mixed driving.
