Title: Remove complete EGR valve from 1.6 CRDI 2008
Post by: roysmits on September 23, 2014, 20:26:00
Hi,

I have a 2008 1.6 crdi I30. The EGR is making a noise while driving, and i think it's very dirty. Now i want
to clean the EGR. Is there an easy way to complete remove the EGR? I already tried to remove the 4 screws
on top, but that only releases the motor. Does anybody have a drawing. I have GDS but i can't find it there.

I'm sure that is the problem. When i remove the connector from the EGR, the noise is gone.

Hi

Can't help with the removal, but it would be very interesting to see pic's of the EGR before and after cleaning, when you get it removed.

How many kilometers have your car done..

Have now. What sort of noise are you hearing. It could be the motor itself. The valve isn't the easiest to remove.

Removed and cleaned egr today. Hell of a job. Remove airfilter and collant hose from egr cooler.
Then it's 1h work. After cleaning the noise is still there. I think that the noise is from the pipe that goes from the egr to the inlet. I think there is al little hole in it. Does anybody know the part number for this pipe?

Thanks, found one on Ebay.

Still the same problem.

- changed the EGR pipe (same problem)
- changed the EGR valve (same problem)
- put a blank plate at the EGR inlet (same problem)

The noise is still in or near the EGR pipe @ 1500-2500 rpm (i listen with a stethoscope)

Anyone suggestions?

Do you hear it clearly, or do you need stethoscope? For example filming a video and uploading that to youtube would let us hear the sound too. It would be easier to guess where the noise comes from.

Here is a film: :link: hyundai-i30 - YouTube (http://youtu.be/IGvs_NZZv30)

- If you remove the vacum hose. The noise is gone.
- If the lever of which the vacuum pump is to pull up all the way up , the sound is there.
- if you remove the motor from the EGR valve and you push the valve manually about two   millimeters press it's also gone.

i think that the motors exhaust gases can not be completely lost.

Isn't that the vacuum pipe that goes over the turbo and controls the variable blades of the turbo? At least it sure lookes like that one. That should have nothing to do with EGR. In my opinion it looks like the sound comes from the turbo. Or from the contol "bell" of the turbo. When you remove the line, the blades are in "normal" position, no sound. When pipe is connected, the car tries/does control the blades and and the blades move -> hell of a noise. Something is seriously wrong with there.

Please tell me I saw the test in the video correctly:
1. Hose connected: noise
2. Hose removed: no noise
3. You moved the axel of the turbo control bell with your hand: noise
4. You reconnected the hose: noise.

If I saw what I think I saw, it is not the EGR. It's in the variable blades of the turbo or the vacuum bell that controls those blades. I would not run that engine before you find the problem. That was a scary sound...

Maybe I should read more carefully...

I hope I am wrong, but it sure looks like your turbo is busted. That bell over the turbo is not the vacuum pump. It's the control bell of the turbo.

Hi Sundiz,

Thanks for the repley. A friend (auto meganic) thinks the same.
Go to bring the turbo to the doctor. Let you know the result.

Greets,

Santa was good to you!  :victory:

I guessing you worked out what it was through the wrapping, by the weight and the odd "shell" shape..  :D
