Total dumbass question. My first diesel car. Got it home a few weeks ago. Heard a bang from under it the other day. Thought it was a rock but thought I better look. Looked under it and noticed this tube. What is this tube? Is it normal?

My guess is it's the drain for the aircon condensation? I'll go see if the wife petrol tourer has one!
Edit: yep the Wife's got one.. Well her car has anyway.. :snigger:

Looks like the air-con condensation drip tube to me, one way to find out is to put the air-con on max cool for 10-15 minutes and you should see condensation leaking out of it.
Just checked my car and it's the same as you've shown so it'll be for the air-con.

I've edited my post (the wife's tourer has one, so I'm pretty sure that is what it is...)

My Excel didn't have a drain tube go to the bottom like this, when I did turn the air conditioning on it would drip on to the side of the engine... I got worried) t was leaking oil... turns out it was just a design flaw
