Title: 2010 i30 Hatch CRD Ignition switch won't unlock on hot day in sun
Post by: Mazzo on December 03, 2014, 05:03:11
When car has been standing in sun on hot day the ignition switch remains locked. Removing and replacing key several times and sometimes moving steering wheel eventually solves problem. In cold weather no problem whatever. Any views appreciated.

I have an idea but not something you can do at home.
Next time it happens try rocking steering wheel back and forth.

Problem was solved by replacement of ignition switch barrel.

It's a known problem.  Most dealers lubricate the key which usually cures the problem of sticking pins.

I also had this once or twice when summer arrived, but I squirted some graphite powder down the ignition barrel and it seems to be better now :goodjob:
