Title: My New Toy
Post by: Doggie 1 on January 25, 2015, 09:31:01
This is my new toy.
I picked it up on Friday.
Thanks to all who offered advice, but at the end of the day I had to do what I was comfortable with.
I intend to put a few thousand kms on this and then buy a tourer to compliment it.

Now, I know that you will all laugh at me, but I can take it.   :blubber: :blubber:
I have had untold trouble finding a motorcycle helmet to fit my (apparently) big head.  :Dunno:
The full face XXL helmets I can't even get on.
So I need at least a 3XL.
I guess that's the price to pay when you have such a big brain.   :snigger:
To make do, last week I managed to pick up an open face helmet (not ideal) that at least I can get on.
Today I picked up a visor for it, but it is fixed, so I probably won't use it.
TBH, I prefer the feel of the open face helmets because full face are claustrophobic, but protection-wise, I know I have to get one.
The one I have has no chin protection.
Back in the Dreamtime when I rode police bikes, I didn't have trouble finding a M/C helmet to fit, so why now?   :undecided:
Surely I can't be alone in this....?
What is going on? Do people have smaller heads these days?

I too have a large head, Dave.  As my "mates" in the Navy used to say, "You have the unfeasibly large, novelty scone."  I did have trouble getting the helmets to fit as well.  Basically I'd get the largest possible and just put in the thinest padding.

As for head size, in metric I am a 60-61cm head, and have a weird shape (as those that have met me can testify).   :goodjob:

I can see why you're having trouble getting a helmet to fit, what with having a numberplate stuck on your head...  :snigger:
