Title: Blue backlight remains on after ignition switched off
Post by: bionic71 on April 21, 2015, 12:06:42
Hi all,
Odd little problem with I30 2009.

After switching off the ignition I have noticed that the blue backlight remains lit in the section of the dash display, directly behind the steering wheel, that shows the odometer and trip info.
There is no display, just the blue  backlight.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

I have no idea about fuses etc...

Cheers

Usually an indication of an open door or hatch.

Is there a car pictorial on the display, or just a plain blue background. If the latter, then I'd say the display is faulty.

Cheers for reply Phil#1
Yeah, no pictorial display, just the blue background lit.
Tried doors and hatch, all seem fine.

Yep, car locks as normal.

Always on, or off after a while?

Does it go off when the car is locked?

done anything with the radio wiring recently?

Hi again Lorian,

Remains ON...refuses to go off at all even after car doors are locked.
No, haven't touched the radio at all...wouldn't know a thing about wiring!

You could try disconnecting the -ve battery lead for approx 30 minutes. This causes a reset of memory modules and MAY fix your problem. You would need to re-tune your radio.

LOL, you make me laugh Phil.
I have no idea what the -ve battery lead is!

I think I'll be taking it to the garage tomorrow afternoon.

Annoying little problem. I just cant understand why it remains backlit after the engine is off.

Would you like me to explain or leave it for the garage.

I'll try the garage tomorrow mate.
I'm likely to electrocute myself.

Not with 12 volts, but damage to components can happen, so that's fine.

I think I know what you mean by -ve cable to battery,
If it stops raining I'll go out and give it a go.

Pull the memory fuse instead maybe.

Lorian,
Pulling the memory fuse!
Sounds way too complex for me.

Does that do the same thing?

@Bionic71

The  -ve Terminal is the one marked with a - sign on the battery. Do not disconnect the + one as you could short out with your spanner creating a bright flash and causing damage. Never let any part of your spanner touch the opposite battery terminal. Working on the -ve side, is a lot safer for you and the car.

Cheers. Yep, I know not to play with the + side.
Its pissing down rain outside, so I can't get out to do it now anyway.
I think I'll take it to the garage anyway tomorrow.
I'm hoping it is just a fuse issue.
There doesn't seem to be anything else wrong.
Just odd that the backlight remains on after ignition is off.

and of course.....I booked in to take the car to my garage tomorrow and the light has now gone out!
Had the car washed at the car wash this afternoon...so wondering if it is a wire fault.
Or could be water related ....as we had serious rain over the past 48 hrs in Sydney.
Or the car is possessed.
I have no idea, so I'll watch it over the next week or so and see if the spook returns.

Any other suggestions appreciated. Cheers gents.
