Title: Quiet tyres for i30 #2
Post by: stephen graham on May 12, 2015, 08:56:21
Any opinions on tyres so far? My Current Hankook tyres on my i30 very noisy. Looking at the official results Kumho Ecowing have db rating of 67 but of course that is from outside the car. Need advice on what's best for noise inside the cabin (at more than 50mph!)

I like my Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance tyres, they are rated one db higher, but they seem ok to me, but I've become pretty oblivious to road noise.

Their wet grip is second to none, downside is they have a kind-of retro look, which suits me

Like Lorian I've Goodyear EfficientGrip Performance (195/65-15H) on mine and very happy with their performance.

I remain of the opinion that Continentals are the quietest tyres I have tried.

However - this might come at the expense of quicker tyre wear judging by the front tyres on my current Venga. I might get 25,000 miles out of them

Read this thread - especially post #46  :link: Tyre Noise (https://www.i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=29732.msg315841#msg315841)

A lot of it is to do with the poor sound proofing quality, it can be really quiet on some types of road surfaces but the state of our roads in the UK its like a patch work quilt and they are far and few between. This is the nosiest car by far as road noise is concerned I've ever owned. I never had to give it a thought before about what type of tyre's I want to throw on a car, usually the cheapest I can find and they've always been quieter than this chariot.

Unfortunately the strut towers being at the base of the windscreen doesn't help, any road vibration is transferred straight into cabin as noise.

The Toyos I have on the Wife's car are about a million times better than the original spec I have on mine....

According to most tyre reviews the Dunlop Sport BluResponse are hard to beat.
