I had to google that! First off I thought it might be a gay music group or something! Lester might be there somewhere (he lives in the Wirral

Hahaha

Was going to go on my bike, about 5 miles from hime, but very windy here today so I'm on bus/train as all roads within 1 mile of the river are closed to non essentail traffic due to parking restrictions.

I'll have my genuine Alcatraz baseball cap on today.

Here are a few of the the photo's I took.

The REd Arrowes were due to fly up the river i.e. from north to south - left to right but they actually flew across the river from west to east so where I was on the west side all we could see was the back end of the planes and the smoke.....

That is bloody impressive. Makes you almost proud to be British, except they were built in France and Italy.  :whistler:

On theWirral in New Brighton waiting for the 3 Queens to turn up.

Johnno,

I see from the vid you where at Egremont Ferry,  nice pub now since they did it out last year, then the photo's were up at New Brighton in front of the fun fair as the 2 ships entered the Mersey.

Did you get parked OK and how was the traffic when you were going home.

I live about 4 miles from New Brighton so left the car at home and caught the train to New Brighton.
Wandered down from the station to the front and followed the ships along towards Seacombe.

At seacombe I waited for the Red Arrows.

As I went to get the bus home the roads around just grid locked and told there would be a looooooong wait so wandered into Birkenhead for the train.

Hope you enjoyed your visit to the Wirral.

Fantastic photos!!  Thanks for posting!!

The Red Arrows are one of my favourite aerobatic display teams, much better than the Roulettes, Thunderbirds and Blue Angels.  BTW, I did know a former member of the Red Arrows, he was an ex-Kiwi who left the RNZAF when they disbanded their fighters.  I also know the current Roulette lead.

On a serious note, i remember when the QE2 was launched. All of us at Primary School were ushered into the assembly hall to watch this 1960's media extraveganza.

That was the level of pride we still had back then.

God, i'm getting old, starting to sound like my dad

Lester .

It was a clear run all the way, parked outside the Caffe Cream shop near the Fort had a bacon butty and coffee and walked down to that Pub till the ship left the dock and walked back up to the fort and took the photo's of all 3 ships coming back down the Mersey, then headed home coz my mate was freezing his trolley's off coz he only had a short sleeve shirt and jumper, [daft git] told him to bring a coat .
It was stacked up going back to the motorway but the traffic trying to get into new Brighton on the motorway was stacked up for 2 junctions

I go to the Wirral quite often to visit the other halfs cousin in Thingwall just off Pensby Rd.

Must have been early to get that close to the fort.

On my way on the train I could see the traffic on the motorway, junction 2, and just one big car park.  The "3 Dips" going towards NB was full and cars just at a standstill.
A lot of people will have missed the sail into the river..

Glad I used the train!

I'm in moreton so just a few miles away......

See they want to demolish the Pensby Hotel and build a care home...  another landmark going........

My you were keen as the ships didn't enter the mersey until 12 noon.

It was a lovely morning and the views from NB would have been excellent at that time.

But given you were not local you did the best thing.
Just think of those still trying to get there as you were going home!

Ps
When on my bike i sometimes stop off at the pub at egremount ferry  and sit on the bench taking in the views up and down the mersey

I've not ridden a push iron since I was about 15 /16 yrs old. I bet I couldn't do a mile on one without running out of steam
