Title: Couple could face a £1,000 fine – for using their own driveway (UK)
Post by: eye30 on May 26, 2015, 19:22:33
A couple face a £1,000 fine every time they drive home – after double yellow lines were painted across their driveway.

They've now been told they are breaking the law by using the driveway as it is inside the yellow lines – and by attempting to drive on or off their own land they will be making an illegal "vehicle crossing".

"They claim because we don't have a dropped curb outside our home that they are justified in putting yellow lines outside our house – but it's been that way since the house was built in 1995.

NOTE BY ME:
My understanding is that unless there is a drop curb then the driver of a vehicle can be find by going up onto the pavement/the kerb.
They can only be fined if the ticket issuer/Police person actually witnesses the action not if the vehicle is already over the kerb and parked up
Can anyone confirm this or not...

And
if the house was built with a driveway in the plans then the builder has an obligation to contact the council to have the drop kerb installed by the council who are the only authority able to do this work.
