would this work in the australian 2009 model CRDI?
can't find an answer :-(
-
I personally would spend a couple more bucks and get something with a better viscosity range. I use Castrol 0w40 edge full synthetic... But that sparks debate with some people too
-
Some people just like to debate, perhaps a mass debate? :whistler:

Don't think that is a fully synthetic? It needs to be!
-
hmm.. so Castrol edge it is..
5w-30 would work? Repco has it on special at $40 tomorrow.
-
Do you have a Blackwoods near you :undecided: Shell Ultra 5W40 is always $40 through them, normally $70 at the usual automotive suppliers.

Do you have to have an account with them,I pass a huge one almost daily

No account needed, just give them a ring first to see if they have it in stock or they'll order it for you.

It is, if you want to charge it to someone else.

Would the shell ultra 5w40 work well? Might have to find a Blackwoods, as Repco was all out of the Castrol edge on special.no hurry anyway I was going to service it at 90000.but I got the impression that an oil change can be done energy 15k with fully synthetic so I got a bit more to go
-
I have used Shell Helix Ultra (not the Extra) 5-40 on both this and my last i30. :goodjob2:
-
I'll give it a go, thanks
-
When I first started using it, the Extra didn't meet the necessary requirements, but I think it might do now.
May pay to check that.
But in any event, I've kept using the Shell Helix Ultra and my car at 136,000 kms is running like new.
As did my last one when I sold it at those same kms.
-
Mine runs noticeably quieter on the Shell Ultra compared to Royal Purple :goodjob2:

Nothing wrong with the Castrol 5W30 if you do decide to go that way.
I use Castrol's 0W40 Edge myself... :goodjob:

After the scam Castrol pulled with Magnatec I cant trust a company that misleads customers' I had good information supplied to me by one of the Castrol reps a few years ago relating to Castrol giving the Magnatec the full synthetic rating, they were drawn through the courts for misleading consumers as the base for Magnatec is mineral ( not synthetic ).
Finally the courts allowed them to use the synthetic rating due to the fact that 3/4's of the Magnatec oil is synthetic additive, personally I feel that is very shifty business ethics and I cant put my faith in companies of such standards whether the courts granted them rights or not :disapp:
-
Ah, the infamous, so called "Court Case"...it seems to have become a bit of an "urban legend" out there on the Interweb...lol
Actual facts relating to this "court case" seem to be quite scarce though...but, I did find this... :link: Mobil v Castrol (RE:Synthetic) - TDIClub Forums (http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=144822) It's a big read... :crazy2:
Oh, btw, it wasn't Magnatec, it was Castrol's Syntec oil...
-
Not a chance in hell I can be bothered reading all that
It was a Castrol rep that informed me of the Magnatec case so I have no reason not to believe him, I have also noticed that Castrol Magnatec is now listed as semi synthetic on their website though it doesn't look like it's stated on the bottle so I'll been mentioning this to Rockingham Hyundai as Magnatec is what they use and it's not full syn as they seem to think

Not to start a debate on oil.
just my i30CRDi had a sticker on engine cover stating what standard the oil had to meet, i think the only oil i could find was Mobil 1 0w/30w
was pricey :'( ,
but these day's i'm not in a warranty so just use Valvoline 15w 40w Super Diesel ( cheap ) is its diesel & 15 w 40w it is non synthetic , just means change is more often.
