Title: getting supplies for my 90K service (diesel)

been doing some research and what the 90K service is and which parts/consumables to buy

as far as I know the 90k service for diesels is.
air cleaner filter
fuel filter
brake fluid
auto trans fluid

anything I'm missing?

1) for the filters, www.genuparts.com.au (http://www.genuparts.com.au) has them at $79 for all three (great price i think)
2) for the Oil, i think i'll go for castrol edge 5w-30 at $40 on special at repco (unless anyone has anything better/cheaper)
3) what is everyone is using for brake and trans fluids?

I will take them to my mechanic when the time comes, but I find this way I usually spend less and get better quality stuff. just more effort before hand.

another thing i might get the mechanic to check is sometomes when starting fron cold, it takes a bit and blows smoke. or when i accelerate blows some smoke..
I was thinking it might be solved by doing an injector clean or use liquimoly diesel purge.. any ideas?

We have seen 12 month old glow plugs needing replacement and others lasting the life of the car. No idea about brands sorry!

These should be ok.

I couldnt find mention of the glow plugs, i wonder if they're in an earlier service or later one.
I had my car since 70k and it's been mainly oil and filter, this is the first "major" service i have with a few more things

I don't think they are scheduled for replacement (just when they fail)

If only a couple have failed (If any) I'd replace the lot and keep any good ones as spares. It isn't a big job apparently.

Post by: Phil №❶ on July 12, 2015, 04:26:44: There was an instance posted here about a glow plug that disintegrated on removal, with the thread locked in the head. That would be a nasty job to remove, so I'd stay away from doing it myself, just in case.

My old diesel, 2007, which my son now has, still has the original glow plugs in the car.

what do you guys think about the rest of the service? am I missing something?
any recommendations on fluids to get?
PS: I missed the repco sale for the oil, so i'll get some shell helix ultra 5w40 more than likely

Post by: rustynutz on July 14, 2015, 04:10:15: I'd use a reputable brand coolant, not those bottles of el cheapo pre mixed stuff you see around.
Just be aware you do need to use a coolant that meets the standards required by Hyundai...You should be able to find those details in your service manual.

I swapped over to Nulon's "Red Long Life Concentrated Coolant" (http://www.nulon.com.au/products/Cooling_Systems/Red_Long_Life_Concentrated_Coolant/) but really, it was probably a waste of time as, while under warranty, the coolant needs to be changed every 45,000k. (FD i30)

But, now that my i30 is out of warranty I'll probably string it out a lot further...
