Bike riders in New South Wales, Australia may be made to carry licences in the same way that drivers do – potentially leading to more calls for a similar system in the UK.
The Roads Minister Duncan Gray told the Sydney Morning Herald he was ‘increasingly persuaded’ by the idea of introducing a licence system for cyclists above the age of 16 or 18, alongside tougher penalties and fines to equal those already handed out to drivers.
