I NEVER THOUGHT A LEATHER KNOB WOULD FEEL ANY DIFFERENT TO A RUBBER ONE. I WANT TO PAINT MY STEERING WHEEL SILVER IN THE MIDLE TRIM BUT DONT KNOW HOW TO PULL IT APART.
-
I think one of the TS bulletins shows how to remove it, as part of the replacement of the flexible steering coupling (which I'm having done soon)

Hey 2i30's, I like how you solved the big question of hatch or wagon...just get both!
Looks tops mate!
I would like to know what springs you used, are they pedders?
How to you find them, day to day ride, handling differences?? And what did they set you back?
-
Good pics. Wish mine would stay that clean

they are pedders springs, cost me $600 fitted and a 4 wheel alignment.it rides harder than stock springs but not bone jarring hard.it corners like its on rails.its only 35mm lower but looks a lot more than that.if you want lower than that you have to cut them and that makes you unroadworthy. cheers steve.
I've got pedders spring part # if any one wants them.
-
more mods to come,soon.

Looks good! :) :) :)

thanx

Hi 2i30s
I am just about to take possession of a silver sx crdi and have added a few factory mods/extras. One of them being the manual leather gear knob which comes standard with the slx/sr. however I don't think I am getting the i30 OEM leather gear knob I ordered as my dealer has just emailed me with this:
"gearknob says 6 sp just ignore the Angel gear."
I looked at yours and it has the standard 5 gears plus reverse. I reckon he has taken it from another model Hyundai and just added it on. I will take a photo when it arrives tomorrow and see what you guys think.
Question though, did you fit yours yourself or did they do it at the dealership? Does anyone know how difficult they are to replace as i think I may have to reject this one and demand the OEM and probably fit it myself.
-
I wouldn't accept a 6sp knob on a 5sp box, it's not good enough. I'd reply to the email and tell him so. It's possible it's a knob from a diesel i30, but it's still not the right one for your car.
-
the gear knob just screws off by hand, turn it anti clock wise to un screw it.
-
im looking at a sunroof tomorow as my latest mod, christmas present from the wife.i put a mask on the front not long ago looks sweet. pics soon.
-
Is the sunroof a mod done as a genuine Hyundai fitting? Would love to know how I could get a sunroof in mine.
Speaking of mine. I took posession a week or so ago. I too will post pics soon with full detailed story.
Would love to see pics of mask!
-
http://www.sunroofcentre.com.au/sunroof_products_info.php?id=1
the sunroof I'm getting is the 700 series, click on more info tab to view. $2,200 fitted and takes a day and a half.
-
Great mods,
I would paint door handles to white.
Where did you get the gear knob and how much does it cost?
-
my gear knob i bought off a club member, you can buy one on eBay for about $35.if you contact karhung and ask him about the site and cost.he bought one really cheap.

the mask I've done using stick on black vinyl,if i used paint and didn't like it i would have to re paint it white again.i can peel of the sticker and its still original
-
Do you have a picture of the mask you made?
-
i get my sunroof fitted on the 4th of January, ill post up some pics once its done.pics of the masked front also.

Thanks, I look forward to it.

Hey great work with the hatch....
Just a quick question tho.... How does the 2' exhaust sound? Just out of curiosity

the sun roof I'm getting fitted is the same as my dealership was going to get fitted and from the same sunroof place, the price is $800 cheaper for me to drop off my car and two days later pick it up.its a bit rude the dealer marked the price up to drop a car off only five kms up the road and then have it dropped off by the sunroof fitter two days later.when i mentioned the mark up to the sunroof guy ,he said the dealerships price was fairly rude also
-
one more sleep and my sunroofs going in
-
5 hours till i pick her up,cant wait.i had to leave her there for a day and a half. :'(

Looks very good Steve.. Can you post some shots from underneath (inside) please..
Seems very similar to Dave's in WA (DB08)
-
will do m8
-
Lookin good..... Might have to mask mine lol
What is the wind noise like with the S/R open???
-
i doesnt make that much noise at all,and you dont get any buffering noise
-
nice
-
here ya go dazz. the sunroof will close itself when you turn off the ignition or if it rains.i can make it stay open by pressing the open button before removing the keys.the rooflining is fully fabricated and the original isnt used.the center roof light has been mooved backward by around 8",thats where i think it should have been from the factory anyway, it now lights the rear of the car better.

Thanks for that Steve.. Thank the wife for the nice pix won't you...
Very tidy installation - don't forget to wear sunscreen or a hat..
Your head might get a bit hot in Melbourne summers... :D
P.S. I have had a sunroof in a couple of previous cars they certainly give the car a nice open and airy feel..
-
my 17 year old sons car is the brown car in the background,he wants a sunroof like mine now. I'm building a new engine for it at the moment,102,000kms and it snapped a timing chain and its bent all the valves.
-
Looks red to me... (I wouldn't be spending 1000's for a sunroof on a car of that age...)
-
thats what i told him,but its in almost mint condition.he bought it as a one owner from an 81 year old man.
-
hey 2i30s! your car is looking sweet! mind me asking what you used as the mask since you stated it was a stick on, did you cut it our yourself or was it preorder to size? If possible do you know the place you got it from/name of the item? Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks!
Waiting to see where the modding bug will take you next
-
my wife thinks I'm an adult trapped in a teenagers mind  mods  the black vinyl i used is an industrial style i got from a company that does computerised graphic signs, billboards and shopfronts.i was given it as off cuts.I'm sure I've got a small bit left,i will look tomorrow and see if its got a brand name on the back of it.i placed a piece on the front of the car and stuck it down with masking tape and drew a line on it where it needed to be cut.i removed it,cut it and then carefully started to peel the backing off and used a squeegee to push the airbubbles out, finally i used a hairdryer to remove any air bubbles that where left.
-
Looks nice on the outside and inside
-
thanx
-
you i30 just keeps getting more and more awesome! would be awesome if you masked the bonnet of your car as well like some of the korean i30s  but with this adhesive vinyl, wouldn't it lift in extreme heat or discolour? My last pair of adhesive P plates on my car had both discoloured and started to lift, but if it was cheap to replace, so it can't be too bad!
Also, have you had any problems when washing the car and if it catches or anything (I use the meshy Meguiars washing mit)? I really like your idea and even if I could get some from bunnings or rock over to some other shop it'll be cheaper than the $295 US that KAI wants for their CF grill accent :-[
-
the vinyl stuff is apparently got a 15 year life span.I'm going to eventually have the front painted.
-
Your car looks awesome Steve! I want a sunroof now too....
-
if you go to post #28 ive got a link to the sunroof ive used, there should be someone in sydney to help you sweetbix

looks good man! i bloody love the sunroof!! my maxima has a sunroof and the old 4x4 i had also had a sunroof!! nothing like driving on a hot summers day with all the windows down and the sunroof open!!
its probably the only option i would have got if we could have had them from the factory!

I'd say a sunroof would be on the must have list for a QLD'er? Great weather for them......
-
yes!!! i wanted to use the sunroof in the maxima today when i was driving around but it was rather terrible weather, so i just slid the inside roof part back and keep the glass closed!
2i30's does yours have a slid back cover like a factory sunroof?
-
yeh mate its got the slide back head lining.
-
wow thats awesome!! *jealous*
-
here is my latest mod,i bought the grille and fog light accents off eBay Australia for only $130 including postage from an importer in Brisbane.the Korean sites wanted $300 for just the fog light accents.i got 2 front,2 rear and the grille accent.
-

I've seen hubcaps that looked like magwheels,i had to look twice, they were so real looking.
-
In a small pic maybe
Another fact is that there are magwheels that look like hubcups
Fortunately all of our members have a good sense of taste.
-
i often see cars that the owner has spent a lot of time and money on ,and then put the most cheap and ugly wheels on. but its up to the car owner what they like. IMO
-
Sure, you can't blame someone who doesn't want to spend 500 or 1000$ just for looks.
-
even putting a set of "china's best" on your car will improve it a million times!
i have a mate (matto) he has a VY commadore... its a berlina had "hub cap" mags wheels so he thought it would be BRILLIANT to get a set of black steel wheels then paint them silver, then put the new tyres on them, and put the mags in the shed...
looks horrible, and really cheapens the car, but he thinks its better than a set of chrome 20's
-
Nice rims on that nice i30.
I like your hatchback.
-
thanks mate, your car looks nice. is your car a petrol or diesel?

-
cheap, and cheap, don't always mean the same thing.

Yeah, i get your point
Better "cheap" than "cheap"
-
yes my Friend.
