Title: Windshield wiper arm cap
Post by: phiber on October 13, 2015, 17:01:49
Greetings!
I've been looking for the windshield wiper arm cap that covers the nuts/bolts of my 2009 1.6 i30. I found them at partsmaster but nobody is answering on any phone and that makes me hesitant to actually order from their site. The ones I found on ebay are about $60 USD since they ship from USA to Croatia.

I know a few owners who had their windshield caps stolen and they're not even gonna bother replacing them.

Ebay caps cost anywhere from $1.2 to $6, Partsmaster are $0.8 to $1.2 USD.

Ideas?

Have you checked out a breakers yard.

May be not one for i30 but one that will fit.

ps
Are they not fixed to the arm?

Nope, they're not fixed to the wiper arm. No i30s on the breakers yard.

I lost one when my car was about a year old. Dealer replaced if foc. Said the caps cost them almost nothing and it wasn't worth even doing any paperwork.

Seems very expensive!

Will another marque's cap not fit yours?

Try a Kia one or other models of Hyundai in the wreckers/ breakers yards. I imagine they would probably be identical across the range and the same for Kia / Hyundai.

I'll call a KIA dealer and see if they have any in stock, maybe they'll fit. Like I said, no Kia's or Hyundai at the breakers yard.

On another note... somebody banged their doors against my doors on the parking lot. Didnt leave a message. Nasty indentation + white primer almost disappered... pretty deep, total area I'd say 1 x 0.5 cm for the primer showing. indentation of 5 x 7 cm.

Why aren't you calling a Hyundai dealer

Because I called 3 dealers here in Croatia back in 2010 when caps on my wipers got stolen.
All 3 ordered them, called all 3 back during 2010 and lost interest because they were still "waiting" on them.

I believe it was a problem either with the exclusive distributor for Croatia or with the Czech factory.

Wow not good about the parking dent, my worst nightmare. I try to always parallel park in the street when I go shopping but if wife is with me she says too far away! :fum:

Still no doorstrikes on Firty. If I can't parallel park we take her car.

Think my car is still doorstrike free, but Trish's has a very faint one in one door.  :undecided:

My i30's left hand guard has 2 dings in it right under each other and there's another set (in the door) just below the left hand mirror...

I suspect they are from shopping trolleys...  :head_knock:

No parking dings yet for me :fingers: as I only do parallel street parking, if I go to the shops or any other risky areas I'll always use the Excel.

I've got some chips in several spots on the nose cone though from trucks speeding down some of the rural roads near here, they come by so fast and throw up stones and gum nuts :censored:

The caps are really only to keep, water out and for appearance.
Try some bluetac, smooth it over and paint it black.  Easily removed if you want access to the wiper shaft.
