Hi I have had my brand new Hyundai I30 (black) for 4 weeks, its my pride and joy, noticed yesterday that some **** has clipped the drivers side panel (rear wheel). Photo attached, I dont know who obviously, and can't claim on the insurance as I would loose my no claims, so any ideas how much this would cost at a hyundai garage, tried to call them but all closed, I have really hoping that the whole panel wont have to be replaced. £££ any advice much appreciated

I'm not a panel beater, but normally anything thats on a fold or crease in the metal is harder to fix. They might be able to beat it back out and fill it to get the correct line back, but I think long term a replacement panel would be a better fix. Sorry to hear! Just relax you will get it sorted out in no time.

Where do you hail from?
I ask because near to where I work there is a small repairer who does all the work for local dealer inc Hy.
I've used them privately, non insurance, and they do a brill job at a reasonable rate.

That's a nasty looking knock you got there. Shouldn't cost too much to blow out (or even fill?).

I use this guy (like eye30's contact he does all the transporter dings for the dealers up here inc. Merc & BMW), would fix that for £60. http://www.chips-plus.co.uk/
See if you can find out who does that kind of thing in your area, it's worth a try first before shelling out on new panels.

It looks nasty but small> I doubt you'll need a new panel (if it is fixed properly)
It's a fairly easy repair (I.M.O.) the painting could be tricky though...

Many thanks for advice guys this forum is great, I will try guy suggested, I assume they need to use Hyundai paint not to void the warranty, its upseting but what can you do. Ill let you know when i get a quote.

I think you will find they will just mix up whatever they have (there are several leading brands of Auto paint most repairers use)

There's no need to use Hyundai paint, although that part of the paint on the car will not be covered by Hyundai's warranty any more. Most repairers offer a longer warranty on their work than the factory paint anyway!
Looks to me like a flesh wound, hard to tell in pictures but I doubt the whole panel will need replacing.
In any case, I feel your pain. :'(

Hyundai have published a paint maching guide for most of the main paint manufacturers ranges vs the i30 paint range. I saw it either in the technical notices in the technical info forum, or it was on hmaservice website.

Hi, I have been quoted £140 by dent magician, in the process of also getting a quote from local hyundai garage, assessor advised that a mobile repair will only last a year at best and will be a visible repair, he also said that if the work is carried out at H garage then the warranty stil stands on the bodywork, any ideas on if this is correct

I would expect that to be the case with the warranty. The 3rd party repairer may also offer some warranty on the repair however.
As an indication of price, I recently has a very minor prang on a front bumper (old dear reversed into me at some traffic lights) and that required them to remove the bumper, do a VERY minor fill (less than yours) and spray the whole bumper and that was £242 done by the independant repair agents. Obviously this was an insurance claim.
This was on my old car. 6 weeks later I traded it in on scrappage :)
I presume you dont have your no claims protected?

I'm waiting on the quote from the Hyundai Garage and provided its reasonable (ish) I will get them to do the repair for the peace of mind (hopefully) I dont have protected no claims yet unfortunately.

Hi mobile repairer has advised that due to the position of the damage it need to be taken to a bodyshop, bosyshop's have quoted £300+VAT so will need to book it in in the next few weeks.

Hi picked my car up today from the bodyshop, when I arrived however I could see some scuffs underneath the clearcoat from where I assume they had sanded the bodywork, I mentioned this to them, and they advised this was normal and they started polishing the panel, to be fair a number of them did appear to buff out but a couple remain, moral of the story im very happy to have my I30 back but the finish is not factory perfect.

Definitely under the clearcoat? If it's on the clearcoat then there are some products that might help.

Well it may be over the clearcoat I guess I wont be sure until I try, I have seen Meguairs scratch X, has anyone tried this?

I have and it should work for faint/minor swirly type marks, but does nothing on anything harsher or deeper, as I found out.

I am sorry but you had this job done at the Dealer's bodyshop, right? Get them to do it properly and tell the manager you're not happy. Put this in writing if necessary.

Hi, went to the dealers body shop on Saturday and to be fair they were very pleasant , polished the scuffs out, a few days later and its just noticeable but probably because I know its there, cant face going back so just happy to have my car back. thanks guys
