Title: Fuel Consumption

Evening All, well it is here in the UK, has anyone noticed that there fuel consumption changes depandant on the setting your steering wheel is at?

I have had my i30 just over 2 weeks & filled her tank when I bought her & set the steering to comfort & I noticed that the fuel gauge/to empty was going down quite rapidly so in just over 2 weeks I have used a half tank, now last night on the way home from work I changed the steering to normal & the fuel gauge/to empty wasn't going down as quick, now forgive me if i'm having a blonde moment but if I change steering to comfort or sport I am liable to get less mpg & fuel to empty than I would if steering set on normal???  Any advice would be most grateful.

You cannot possibly gauge the consumption over a 2 week ownership period.

Plus, the fuel tank level indication isn't linear - my top half (bars) take over 450 miles, while the lower half expire in 300 miles.

The flex-steer system doesn't affect the fuel usage, as far as I'm aware :P

Hi Pete,

It is extremely likely that the trip Computer is just playing games. They are not overly accurate and are just a guide.

I would bet money that the steering setting wouldn't have any effect on fuel consumption.

Not having that particular option I don't know exactly how it does it's job, but if there are less turns lock to lock in sport than comfort, the setting has to be more direct and the effort to turn the wheels to steer is provided by the driver. In comfort there may be more turns lock to lock and less direct feel, due to assistance being provided electrically, which has to eventually be provided by the liquid fuel source, however small, there would bbe some effect on economy, but not measurable IMO.

Surely the number of steering wheels turns lock to lock would be the same no matter which setting it is on.

No way you can gauge consumption on half a tank.

The flex steer only effects the feel of the steering. Comfort is light and easy to turn where Sport is firmer and better feedback.

There is no change of turns lock to lock. That would require a gear change in the rack.
