I have a 2009 I30 CRDI with built-in Navigation, type GPStar.
This one:

However, the device is quite outdated and I already have a Tomtom with up-to-date maps. The website of GPStar doesn't even exist anymore.
And another thing: the device had crashed only days after I bought the car and thus drained my battery overnight. So I have removed the device for now.
I might want to install it again (with the power wire AFTER the contact switch), byt my question is: Are there any alternative uses for the device? Can it be hacked? Could it run Android instead of Windows CE?
Has anyone changed the software for another use?

I very much doubt that you could install other software - especially on a faulty unit.
I would be inclined to remove it completely and fit your TomTom in the same location. You could presumably use the power cable already leading to the satnav - but if so - you may need to use the TomTom power cord to ensure it has the correct voltage supply and protection.

Good Idea Alan.
Alternative uses for that one: A boat anchor or landfill come to mind...
Shame to waste a hardly used "gadget" but technology moves so fast these days (6 years old is ancient)

It does appear the quick and easy way is as already suggested...
However 2 or so years ago people were doing some form of upgrade... to iGO8 or something - but the main cited link for a particularly suitable version for it is dead - see :link: NaviTotal.com ? View topic - Gpstar (http://www.navitotal.com/other-f178/gpstar-t11961.html)
