Title: widest tyre?
Post by: buddy on August 28, 2009, 08:19:28
I find myself in a position to upgrade from SX 15" steel rims to 17x7 alloys. Am up with the need to fit different rack spacers etc. but was wondering if it is possible to fit wider than SR 17" tyres? i.e.225/45x17. Car is standard suspension height diesel. Anyone actually done this?

I think Buddy may be on about the steering rack mod per the TSB in this post,

rather than fitting spacers behind each wheel.

As you've got lowering springs, your camber angle will be more negative, so the tops of the wheels lean in more, which is why you may not encounter the problem of the tyre hitting bodywork under maximum compression, whereas Buddy is remaining on stock suspension.

But then again, I could be barking up the wrong tree!

i mean rack spacers, not rim spacers.rim spacers are illegal in Australia anyway.not sure about other country's though.the offset on my rims is the same as the fg falcon but 17x7.5 not 17x8 like the ford is and that's why they dint rub and i dont need spacers of any type.
