Title: Discovered this forum recently.. from Canada
Post by: wzfoto on January 05, 2016, 01:47:03
i30 is called Elantra Touring in Canada.

I had this car (2010 model) for 4.5 years.  So far no major issues other than the fuel door refuse to open from time to time (bought back to dealership to fix for 3 times already)

I m still impressed by the trunk size of this car.  I can fit 3 big luggage in.

Other than that, it is one of the cheapest wagon available.  For the same price, you can only get a mazda2, which is too tiny for to be practical.  Too bad this car has been replaced by the elantra sports/hatchback.

Hi wzfoto.
Just back in Oz from visiting my son in Mississauga.

With your fuel cap, have a look at the wire which holds the cap when you open the door. It tends to get in the way.

Welcome wzfoto,

As Trevor says the tether seems to cause the problem. We only had the problem once, if it happened again I was just going to remove the tether altogether with scissors or a retractable knife.

A squirt of silicone lubricant will sort it out...  :goodjob:

Hi wzfoto

The fuel cap issue is a common one. As others have said just make sure the tether is out of the way. Mine hsa the same issue and no amount of fiddling seems to work. I just deal with it as the rest of the car is pretty fantastic

Enjoy your stay here :goodjob2:

I used to have trouble with the fuel flap quite regularly and moving the tether around would usually fix it temporarily but it always came back.
As mentioned above, a squirt of silicone lube did the job, it's never played up since...  :goodjob:

Hi wzfoto

There is also a spring that can be adjusted - apart from the silicone spray/lube which is a good idea.  See here for photos - :link: Fuel lid doesn't open properly. Problems solved!! (https://i30ownersclub.com/forum/index.php?topic=34243.msg356828#msg356828) - the post prior to that one (and one a number of responses earlier) mention doing it.

I had the issue fixed twice at services (on the second time they taught me the 'trick') and I have only had to do it once since then (couple of years ago).

BTW
